Shouldn't we include Washington DC too. I think their license plates now read ... taxation without representation. Maybe we should give them some representation here? What think you?
Lastly, I'm reading this as landscape orientation, right? Are there any other specifications for sizing decided yet?

If someone wants to do D.C. then that's fine with me, it's FILLED with postcard shots for the U.S., but if we're laying our final poster out like the stars on the flag then we won't have room for it, maybe we could add it to the bottom somehow... You should definetly shoot in landscape and I don't think the size will matter for now but keep in mind the final poster will be 30"x40" with 50 small photos on it so we're probably going to need to crop them in that ratio, I'm not sure about the actual size just yet,. |

I will try and figure out some exact pixel dimensions by tomorrow this weekend. Just worry about capturing the image for now -- the precise cropping can come later.
The photos themselves can't be the same 3x4 ratio as the overall print, because we need some room for the title and photo credit below.
My initial estimation is that a standard 3:2 ratio (like a 4x6 print) for the photo will work, probably at about 800 pixels (2-2/3 inches) wide.

Count me in for MN. Fun project, but suming up a state in one photo is a tough task.. |

You're in! I also had kswanson contact me by pm and sign up for it too, i think the more the merrier! Of course only one can be picked for the poster so I guess we can have a vote of some sort! |

My first thought for Mississippi was a magnolia bloom since we are the "Magnolia State" but they bloom from April to June....I'll have to think of something else :)

Early to mid March is not the most photogenic time of year in Ohio either (or for that matter many of the northern states). But not sure we want to delay this a few months until the seasons change. We could consider doing a second, more summer-like one later in the year if people are interested. |

I think that's a great idea. It could even be an on-going type of thing, post your shots as you take them.....yeah KY isn't too pretty right now either. I was thinking this would be more of a landscape type shot rather than symbols of the state, but flower shots are always pretty so I'm sure it will turn out nicely. i think for now we should try and get some shots done by the end of march, but we can continue this on through out the year, I would just be worried about people dropping out and such..... |

That would be fantastic!! I'm going to put your name down for Virginia only for now, so that some people from maryland and w. virginia don't come in and leave b/c they think it is taken, but I am going to have your name on the list I printed out and if we don't have anyone for those other states in 2-3 weeks then I will put you down for the other two. Are you sure it isn't too much to take one, doing 3 states? Don't want you to do more than you want to!!! |

I am no longer going to be updating the list in this thread, to see a complete list of who is signed up, visit the posting thread here
I will still be checking this thread and replying on it daily, I just don't want to have to update two different lists ;) |

I'm not too great of a photographer, but I grew up in West Virginia and can surely come up with a decent shot...I currently live on the boarder of WV and VA and travel to WV every other weekend. |

Great!! I'll put you down for W.Virginia, we already have someone for Virginia. Also, I looked at your pictures and I think you're a little better than you give yourself credit for ;) Besides, that's what the posting thread is for, to get feedback and help!!! |

I honestly would love to see everyone get a lot of different shots over the next few months so that we could possibly even do two seasonal posters, but realistically I would just be happy with one fantastic shot from everyone within the span of two to three months ;) As far as final sizing data, I think I have everything posted on this thread. I am going to try and get out next weekend to start shooting, I'm getting excited! |

What do you need from Louisiana? I think I might have something you can use for northern LA. That is if you don't have someone for Louisiana yet. |

I was thinking if you have any shots that are a bit older from when the weather was warmer we should be able to use those as well. Cause right now the weather kind of sucks. Right now looking from my photos of NYC.........I see five photos that I have made in to post cards from when the weather was much nicer. Hopefully here in NYC and other places it will get warmer and nicer out, if not I will use some of my others that I have.

The deadline is now undetermined, the weather sucks!! I started this challenge so we could all have an assignment for one shot so we could pour our hearts into this ONE shot, to get a shot that is at the very TOP of our abilities. I don't mind if you use an older photo, as long as you think it is one of your personal best! ;) I think we've all pretty much given up the lenght of time this takes in favor of quality.
All other information is on the posting thread. |
