I had a little chat with the pets this evening (no one else is home; of course I talk to them!), and the consensus was that cats and dogs get way too much attention from the rest of the world. Alternative pets want to be appreciated, too!

So here's a bunny to start:

I know he's not the only "exotic" pet out there, so c'mon, let's see the rest of them!

(PS - February is Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month ... the rabbits here suggested I mention that so *I* don't have to bring any more bunnies home)

A pig is very much like a dog in personality but they grow very big.
This is Chrissie.

Are you sure about this?

Here is one of my babies.

Warning: Don't click if you are squeamish!

Nope, not terribly squeamish. Not about beetles, anyway ;-)

One of my daughter's three pet rats. They are very friendly, and when she has them out they go to her when she calls or if they want re-assurance.

Is he neutered? My male bunny had an attitude and sprayed everything.

Thanks for starting this thread:)

I have no alternative pets, but will have some kittens in a few weeks. Anybody want a baby kitty?

Oh, yeah. I'm not a big fan of bunny urine all over the walls! I actually have 6 houserabbits and all are spayed or neutered. They're remarkably good about using their litterboxes (especially the ones I fostered from the time they were a day old ... they'll be 3 years old in April).

My daughter loves animals and will get every kind I allow (or even more difficult - that her dad will allow).

Here are some of our sweeties:

How are they as pets? The ones I've met have all been kind of shy and definitely annoyed when I pick them up. They do make cute noises when annoyed ;-)

I would LOVE a baby kitty, and I've thought about getting one after my Handsome Kitty was eaten by coyotes. But I fear my elderly girls would frown upon a kitten (aka eat it alive). They are quite queenish and territorial. I'll ask around, though.

Chinchillas have lots of wonderfully, soft fur. Gracie is very shy, and has taken a long time to get used to us. Therefore, I have never turned her over, spread her fur and checked her genital area. However, my daughter is able to hold her, and assures me there are no lumps or bumps in that region. ;-)

It takes time to earn a chinchilla's trust. If you don't want to spend the time, you won't have a wonderful pet, just a room mate.

Not my rabbits, but aren't they adorable?

I especially need to find a good home for the fuzzy guy before I hug him senseless ;-)

Oohh...I can play this game!
We have lots of "exotic" pets in our house. My roommate and I raise and breed snakes - current count is somewhere around 150.

Tons more snake photos in my profile...

I also have a crested gecko:

And my roommate has an east timor monitor lizard but I don't have any pics of her.

Sorry I have no idea why the photos aren't showing up. You can see them on my profile page.
Okay I fixed it.
