Hey all
Gosh, go away for a few days & then get hammered with needing to catch up on comments! OUCH!! Actually lost my Web connection for a few days & hopsital had to work it out
WHEW~!! so glad it got sorted out for the weekend! I have a week to go, it's gooing quickly. This sure is one desolate place! but so very pretty in its scenery. I drive around a lot, but can go no further than about 15 miles from the Med Cntr in case they need me emergently. so some pics get repititive in their content, but the view is always different it seems. I was able to get to Mission again yesterda, as well as to St Francis, a mission about 7 miles from here. While there I stumbled upon a funeral service for a 91 yr old Jesuit priest who'd been @ the mission a very long time. The church and the service were beautiful, with the locals providing the choral accompaniment-what gorgeous voices & music! Is actually what caught my attention as I pulled into the area, b/c they had it obver the PA system there. Finally, I found a local cemetery, a very poignant but eerily peaceful place on a really beautiful clear winter day...i hope you enjoy seeing some of the sights...
Thanks so much for taking the time to look, and to comment. I will be catching up best I can today (unless I get called in for a delivery or something)
Cheers~
Anni

More eagles for day 26. I feel like I'm going to need rehab after they all leave for the season, I'm so addicted!!! With only a few days left of this challange I'll try to get some better representation of where I live.
The comments about day 25's eagles, I think it is a golden eagle. I just assummed it wasn't becuase they're not very common around here and last year there was only one reported to be seen in the area. |

Not much light around when I got in from work today (yes, really, seven days a week!), so I went out into the garden and tried a few macros. This is a dwarf rhododendron which we bought to replace the potted azalea in the back yard area which died, as most plant life seems to do around us. What is the opposite of 'green fingers'?
It was not very light, out, so the lighting in the background of this is from a flashgun laid on the ground and fired remotely up into the plant and onto the column behind.

Here's day 27 for me. I only snapped a few eagles today, so I actually got some of the town where I live.
This one is another view of "downtown". This is the first town I've ever lived in where the streets are laid out in an almost perfect grid. The streets going north and south are numbers and the east and west are letters. The little restaurant is called The Fort. The awning says home of the Wallyburger, which is a humongous hamburger. I don't know if they still do it, but you used to get it free if you could finish it in one sitting. It's truly a small town little diner. Two tables and about 6 stools at the counter. |

I am soooooo sorry guys!! Work really got in the way and I was too spent at night to go out and shoot. On top of this, my small little village has seemed utterly uninspiring vs the shots of those of you who live in bigger cities...
So I apologize for not being very active in this side challenge. hope you all won't mind if I try again later on another SC :S |

Day 27 is a two-fer: and
I've wanted to shoot this particular spot for quite awhile. Still want to get the grass in the afternoon light, but the sunset is one of the views I've long wanted to capture.
Will get to commenting in a bit; I am way behind!! |

I have been so active this weekend with other things, that I have not had time to return many comments. I will try to get it done this week.
It was a good day, so I posted several. Take your pick, or just enjoy them.
Today I had breakfast with my son Robert and his family at McD's at about 11: am. We drove to the ranch where we were launching melons yesterday, to move the melon muskets and equipment. We sat around on the porch at the lodge for about an hour, chatting about the party while my grandson Robbie practiced with a compound bow and arrows on the game targets in the yard.
After delivering the cannon and compressor, I went with my son to move my 14ft boat, which they towed to the Bahamas with their sail boat. I figured that since my boat was already in the river, that I would go shoot a few photos, and perhaps luck up on a shot for the Birds challenge. It was nearing sunset, and not too many birds were about, so I just shot some scenery and the expected 'nother Florida sunset on the way to the boat ramp.
My wife and I then went to my other local son Steven's place for BBQ dinner. It was a fine Sunday here. : )

I didn't take any photos today so I wanted to show you where I live via Google Satellite Maps. Rather remote.

Abandoned House Burns to the Ground. Sat., Jan. 26. I discovered the difference between standing there as a spectator awed by the fire & spinning the scene in my mind, looking for a good camera-angle. It was interesting. |

I have had a few comments asking where I was standing...On the side of a very busy Rt-111. I pulled my car into the breakdown lane, and jumped out to shoot this. It was handheld so no set-up time. The bridge is not used anylonger, so I was standing on the updated version. Yes, It was Frikin COLD!!! |
