The weather turned against me and I couldn't go out to get the shot I wanted so I decided not to enter anything.

Aw, c'mon, you can't buy sunsets on eBay!

I once bought a dozen cigarette lighters (not that I smoke) because they had Irish Wolfhounds on them. Should have looked more closely at the picture, because they were just printouts from an inkjet printer taped around plain old lighters :::grins::: Too bad I gave them away; they would have been perfect!

But I had another idea, and despite my recent string of mediocre scores I'm entering, anyway. It was much more fun shooting pictures than cleaning the house for the holidays!

so has it?

i find it hard to think just about anything you can take a picture of wouldn't fit the challenge. i've seen a lot of strange things from people to haunted houses.

i didn't enter because i don't know how to do advanced editing, but i'm really looking forward to seeing all the photos in this challenge. it seems like it could be a lot of fun.

Just because the rules allow a higher level of editing doesnt mean you have to use that level. It is only a limit to the amount of editing allowed, so anything that is below the level set by the rules is allowed. I have seen one or two ribbons from entries which basically used Basic Editing as their limit in an Advanced Editing rules challenge... no reason not to enter imo :)

those are nice words of encouragement. i just don't think i can do anything that would stack up against the kind of photos i've seen in those challenges. i am learning from this site, though, so maybe my confidence will increase and i may give it a try sometime in the future.

Do you ever listen to Car Talk on NPR? Once a caller said he had bought a limo on ebay from the Russian Consulate in DC snd it had some problem or other on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Shannon, I am far from being an expert. I certainly don't know how to make DPC voters happy (as you can tell from my lack of ribbons). However, there is a bunch of stuff that I DO know, and I'd be happy to help you if I can.

Feel free to pm me if you want to ask something.

In Adobe PS go to -

- Image/Image size (type in 640 as the longest side)
- File/Save for Web
- Click on the little triangle on the right hand side about a third from the top...click on Optimize
- When the window comes up type in 150kb
- Click okay
- Click save and save it in the right folder.

If you have Photoshop there is a tutorial on how to resize for submissions - look under the "Learn" menu. If not, maybe you can buy it on eBay.

Assuming you are using Photoshop CS3, from the menu bar, choose:

Image > Image Size..

Make sure the following checkboxes are checked (before you actually enter a size) and then enter 640 into the text box of your longest dimension. Be sure to enter a sampling method--bicubic sharper is recommended. See dialog box below...

These procedures are very similar in CS2.

Well fortunately no-one did my idea. Therefore if there comes another challenge in which it can be used, it will still be my idea.
