Does anyone here own the Canon Rebel Ti? I'm looking for an inexpensive film camera. If you own this, tell me what you DON'T like about it so I can make a decision :)

I don't own this camera but if I'm not mistaken, it's very similar to the digital Rebel (300D) so I would assume that it has the same limitations.
I've also been pondering about getting a film body and am looking at the EOS 30 (Elan 7E) instead which is sort of like the film counterpart of the 10D.

I think the Ti is actually less limited than the 300d. It has full metering capabilities. I could not find any functionality that my 10d has that this camera doesn't, but I could not determine if it allows 2nd curtain sync flash.

John, have you seen this guys comparison charts. His article is a good read. I almost bought the Ti instead of the 300D and am still having second thoughts. At least it wont take me long to save up for compared to the 300D.

Curious as to what you are going to do with the Ti. |

I would consider a used A2 or maybe a eos 3. The A2 only has half stop ajustments is its biggest draw back.

I have Ti. Its okay. Feels pretty flimsy compared to a D60 body and I'm concerned about the metal lens mount pulling out when I have a big lens attached but it takes okay photos.
No mirror lock up which I dislike. Also has the same lack of control of metering modes and auto focus modes that I dislike in the Drebel. This is less of an issue for the AI AF, because 'sports' mode is still using the same film (rather than enforced JPEG mode). Doesn't support the timer remote I have for the D60, but there is a cut down one for the Rebel range that it supports. No PC flash control port.
Built in flash feels a bit clunky, and there is no flash exposure control when you are using it, making it pretty useless for me.
At least you can always get a partial meter using the AE lock in any of the 'creative' operating modes (P,Tv, Av, M)
I believe it uses an IR film counter which can cloud certain IR film, though I've never gotten around to testing that. |
