Yet it's so damn fun. It's what GTAIV needed to be. So much customization! If they took the customization and many aspects of gameplay, and put them in the beauty that was GTAIV, man, that'd be a game for the ages.

I fell in love with that game!!

Heres a quick review I wrote on gamespot.com SR2

I bought american idol encore on clearance-- and I dont care what ya say-- its a fun game :)

played left 4 dead demo-- great graphics/controls but seem like it could get repetitve fast-- maybe no so much on coop--

Other that that still playing geo wars 2 on a daily basis

I just got NXE installed-- it looks very nice imo-- takes some getting used to as far as navigation goes, but very slick--

I agree it does take getting use to but it is cool! One really useful utility is the ability to copy games to the HDD - it really cuts down on the noise.

I ended up updating before work today and then was almost late because I was working on my Avatar. lol.

Now I can't wait to get home. Thankfully I only have a half-day today.

Tim that Avatar is sick... we haven't met in person but from the pics I've seen of you...that is you.

In my friends list on XBL I have several peeps (across timezones) that work IT in my company. I get up this morn remember the Update is today, so do the deal and start my avatar. Jump over to Friends and see all my peeps are still playing...looks like a lot of late folks to work today... :)

Zune was updated today as well, looks like the plays updated...as well as added 3 new games (Checkers, suduko and Space Battle). Firmware Update as well. Don't know what all the Software/Firmware updates did but will let cha know once I find out.

What kills me is the music and sound effects during the initial "Choose an Avatar to start" sequence. It's basically the Wii parade music and sound effects. It's almost sad.

Thanks for the warning, I'll get ready to mute! I don't have a Wii so I won't be able to compare, but knowing Nintendo it's probably a bit annoying :P

The Wii wasn't even thought off when XBL started back in '02 (any other original XBL beta testers around?) So I'm guessing everyone is borrowing from someone. Good to see MS borrow back, eh.

Not really. The Wii has been out long enough that this update could have been changed enough that the music and sound aren't almost carbon copies. Defend MS as much as you want, but it's laughably sad that they went with it anyway. I like the avatar concept, and will be using it and enjoying it, but that little part of it that made me go, "what the hell system am I on right now?" was just silly.

that new welcome video is pretty cool. I am going to get back on the box soon and mess around with it some more.

I'm starting Act IV in GoW2. Haven't played in a couple days and look forward to finishing this very enjoyable game.

What the **** do I look like, a botanist.

That line cracked me up after the rookie asks Markus(sp) what the plants are. lol

Don't like the music/environment then grab yourself a custom theme... I got the Fable II music/environment on mine.

Now that I've had some time to play around with the NXE, I have a few observations:

1) I'm a little miffed that all the themes have had 3/4s of the theme torched. Most themes had 4 backgrounds, one for each color blade. Now you just get the default first one, and it's not always the best of them either. That really, really sucks. You should be able to choose which of the 4 backgrounds to display, and change them whenever you want. If you can do this, I haven't found a way to do it. This doesn't make me happy.

2) I can't for the life of me figure out what determines the background "dioramas" that sit behind the avatars on "Friends". Doesn't seem to have anything to do with gamerpoints, gaming zone, or anything else really. Seems rather random. Don't get it.

3) I do love the speed and ease of use, although I could do without scrolling through 62 of my games, although using the guide to look up achievements takes away that annoyance.

4) I enjoy the avatar, but for now it has a very very limited use. I hope this changes over the next little while.

5) The marketplace, right now, is horribly broken. Too many people updating and using it I guess.

6) Currently installing Fable II to see how much it helps things. If it merely eliminates the constant disc reading, I'll be ecstatic. Unlike the PS3, the fact that installing games is now available and OPTIONAL (some PS3 games are optional, but many are mandatory and that's just psychotic), is something I'm extremely happy and excited about.

So that's about it for now. If anyone wants me to add them, send me a PM

I don't know that you are understanding what I'm talking about. It was only at the very beginning when setting up an avatar for the first time. You can't change that (nor do you have to worry about it again after that really) with a theme. It just amused me that it was so close to the Mii Parade on the wii is all.

My son is hooked on Left4Dead right now. He tried the trial version then bought it when it came out the other day. He's been playing all waking hours .. well until I kick him off the tv! (he's 18 and works nights) I told him about NXE and of course he already upgraded and made his avatar when it first came out *eye roll* I'm so far behind and the darn thing is right in front of me!

No my 360 is bog standard the ability to install a game on the HDD is part of NXE. You still need to have the disc in the drive to play but the disc never spins up so a lot less noise.

If you select the game one of the options is to install to HDD.

I need to buy me a 120gb hard drive! But they're crazily expensive :( I could afford almost a terabyte for the same money buying a standard HDD!
