Has anyone ever ordered any wooden framing from //www.americanframe.com ? I need some framing and I like some of the options they have. I was looking at their 'assembly guide' for wooden frames, and theirs assmble the same way as the one I bought from AC Moore over the weekend. The AC Moore framing (wooden) did not fit together as nicely as I would have liked (at the corners).

I've posted about them several times in the past and highly recommend them. (see here and here, for example.)

My custom-made wooden frame came pre-assembled, so I'm not sure what part of the assembly guide you are talking about. With the plexi, a double mat and foam core backer-board, the spring clips that you screw in around the frame hold the picture (via compression) very securely.

The metal frames I've ordered come in 4 separate pieces, but I found them pretty easy to adjust to get the corners aligned "perfect". The springs clips in the metal frames also hold everything very securely.

I would love to get it pre-assembled but I think they only pre-assemble the smaller frames. My dimensions total too much for that I think. I have cut my mats and I have the glass and foamcore backing ready to go... I just need the frame.

The prices at americanframe.com look excellent. I think I'll go ahead and make an order from them...

Thanks for the info :)

What sort of quality is the plexi ?

I've had some problems with cheap plexi that on a larger image (24x36 frame) would warp and introduce a whole lot of reflections (even from indirect light) that basically made the frame useless.

The plexi is (IMHO) very high quality. 3/32" thick; not the cheapo flexible stuff you find in frames at the dollar store and stuff.

More info here to make your own assessment, or at least the best one you can without actually seeing some in-person.

They send out frame samples when you place an order (up to 5 frame corners per order, I think?); perhaps they would send you some plexi samples if you wanted to investigate it further.

I've just placed an order with American Frame for some misc. framing supplies and their prices were the best I found. We get the wood locally from a cabinet shop and I was just about to place an order for the glass when I found that Aaron Brothers has excellent prices on glass sheets. They also offer sheets of Plexi, in framing quality. If you have an Aaron Brothers locally - they are worth checking out for glass and plexi.
