Day 13 - Normal composition rules out the window, but I like the capture
Mid-day light (2pm)

35mm, ISO 100, f8, 1/350s, -1EV

*** The photo I was going to use went into Macro, so you get the one above instead.

Day 14 (running a bit behind will catch up!) - Whispy

At the open range zoo today.

Full Sun 3pm nearly cloudless sky.

Shooting into the sun - I really loved the way it showed off the whispy ends of this unusual plant.

ISO 100
Focal length 100mm
TV 1/640
AV 7.1

I am horribly behind on my uploading -

Playing catch-up this weekend! (or ketchup if you prefer). I have everything taken, just not uploaded. Of course, I'm super flaky scatterbrained so we will just blame it on that.

Okay....this isn't the greatest quality shot, but it's such an odd thing.....

I found this ancient truck garage and was taking some shots through the windows to mess with available light, and when I took this, I got some of the picture (on the left) of the inside of the garage, and the right side of the image is a reflection of what's behind me.

It's kinda weird/cool IMO

All I have time to shoot lately are fraternity events (read: parties :-P),
but its giving me alot of practice at working with my flash, on camera and off...

Both shots are longish exposures (0.3 and 1.0 sec, I think) with my flash triggered manually off camera (as in, hold the flash up in the air, point at the part of the ceiling i want to reflect off of, release the shutter, and trigger the flash by hand. took a bit of practice, but works rather well...)

Took this before Macro was announced, so not even close to my entry. I was walking around in the mountains and loved the little dew drops on the fallen leaves. This is one lens reversed in front of another.

Today I needed a softbox for my Macro challenge entry.

I am so pleased with myself because I made my own with items from Bunnings (it's a big hardware store here in Australia)

I purchased a single plastic drawer and some portable lights.

Came home pulled the drawer out, stood the casing up on it's end and covered the sides with semi-transparent paper. The back of the drawer conveniently fits wide scapbook album paper which slides in where the drawer would normally be so I can easily change the 'backdrop' in seconds.

I used the drawer behind the 'softbox' to have a light shine in from above and the two portable flood lights on each side - whella!

The coolest part of all, is that when I'm finished for the day the lights, cords etc all fit into the drawer unit neatly and I can store it simply until I need it again.

I took a sample image for your viewing pleasure - I've not got the lighting perfect, but that's for another day - GRIN!

Also took a shot so you could see the set up - I'm pretty darn pleased with myself - now I think I need to go have a nap - GRIN!

Happy Lighting October we're half way there!

I am elated to see the softbox pictured below by iamwoman. Great use of ingenuity.

This was the shot I was actually going for when I stopped at that garage where I got the weird window shot. I saw the lengthening October shadows casting sideways across the rusty front of this beautiful old truck and just had to stop and see if I could capture the light the way I saw it.

5:35am 1/50s f1.4 ISO 1600

This is shot about 10 minutes before the start of nautical twilight. We are standing in one of the most open, unobstructed places in the planet, on the dune field near Stove pipe wells in Death Valley, NV. We have a view of a huge sky. The twilight wedge is right above us, turning the sand dunes that we are standing on a really subtle shade of purple and blue. There's just the very beginning of light in the sky on the Eastern horizon and you can see a bit of that directionality to the light. The sand dunes act as a big reflector, bouncing the very little light available in every direction.

Gordon-- I havn't commented on any of your pics but I dig your style. All have that relaxed informal feel that I like. They really portray your subjects in an intimate way.
