I was a girly mood, so rented Mamma Mia last night. Apart from the paper-thin plot, two-dimensional characters, Donna looking 10 years older than Sofie, not to mention being so incredibly daft that she couldn't figure out whom she got knocked up by (over the course of three months?!) not too bad. Fun costumes and great setting. 6/10.

All those flaws and a 6/10? I'd hate to see what's a 2/10...

Well, about 4 of those 6 marks come from me being a rabid ABBA fan when I was a tween, dancing around my parents' living room and singing to the songs...*nostalgic sigh* :-)

This is the same discussion my wife & I recently had about Mamma Mia. I HATED it for all of the flaws mentioned above (and I'll add that I can't stand Pierce Brosnan's singing & the whole thing just amounted to a very poor ABBA video to me). My wife enjoyed it because all of the ABBA was fun for her despite the rest of the shortcomings. It was a 3/10 for me, and all three points were earned by Meryl Streep's mitigating performance.

Slumdog Millionaire - great cinematography and insights into modern India.

Crank - 8/10

Usually I am not a fan of Jason Statham, but this was a really fun movie. Cheese filled, but fun, with a very non-typical ending.

The Other Boleyn Girl - 5/10. It was as good as expected, but not amazing. I never felt connected to any of the characters, nor did I understand where Mary's kid was for the latter part of the movie (and that annoyed me). It was a solid movie, but not amazing. It did make me want to look up the true facts about Ann Boleyn though... which I'll do something soon!

The Bank Job - 6/10
Kept my interest and was more suspense than action which was not expected from a Jason Statham movie, but overall I felt it was worth watching.

Son of Rambow - 10/10
What can I say - kids and their imaginations - I can totally relate.

The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button:8/10

7 Pounds: 8/10 - Fascinating movie, leaves you thinking wtf?! for the majority, and then the end everything is nicely tied up. A tear jerker. lol

Bedtime Stories- Cute family movie. I'm an Adam Sandler fan so I might be slightly biased. 6/10

Gran Turino: 9/10 - Clint Eastwood is phenomenal, one of the better movies I have seen in quite a while.

Harry Potter kick...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix: I really don't see any reason to not give it a 10/10. Beautifully lit, love the story.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 8/10, but only because I really really really wanted to see Malfoy get on stilts and pretend to be a dementor...lol! I love Lupin, he's brilliant.

The Final Cut - 8/10
an interesting story being told here about a person's memory, and things we all go through when viewed by another person. i think this might be an old movie though, because i found it in an old cupboard. Robin Williams stars in this one.

Stilyagi

I saw this film last week in Moscow. Very entertaining, great visual quality, great sound and songs. It is a musical style story about people who want to enjoy rock 'n roll in the strict soviet union. It is almost impossible to describe it. But the story is good, lots of humour, you learn a lot about 1950's USSR daily life. Highly recommended. You only have to be able to understand Russian.

If however you ever run into this film in a small theatre, some channel or the video shop (or as a torrent), it is 100% worth it to view it.

Marley & Me 9/10

It was much better than I thought it was going to be. I was also very surprised how appropriate a movie it was since my husband and I went on our anniversary. Enjoyed it very much and so did he.

I just saw Gran Torino with Clint Eastwood and I must say, he's still got it. It's quite a good movie, and I would definitely recommend it. It's basically about an old man who's still stuck in the 50's and how he has to come to terms with the changing world around him. Namely, he has to deal with his own prejudices and preconceptions of people. I give it a 9/10

I seen this a couple weeks ago. I thought it was a good movie (9). I like most lint Eastwood movies though except Bridges of Madison County and the ones that had the ape and the blonde bimbo that couldn't act.

Eagle eye is good too! (8) Surfer dude is stupid IMO. (6)

Jerry Maguire: 7/10

This movie seems to me like a cross between a chick-flick and one of those 'one man against the odds' stories. The chick flick part is that whole "you had me at hello" saga which is actually rather lame when compared to the story of one man leaving his job and starting afresh and being vindicated at the end when everything goes rather swimmingly. Going deeper though, i guess it's a tale of how over-devotion to the job and the dollar can rid you of your intimacy with other human beings and when you strip all that away and lose the greed, the more important things become apparent such as Jerry's relationship with his 1 client.

Also, Cruise is great in this. Before he went crazy he was some actor... if only he was 5 inches taller.

Surfer, Dude!:

I should sue Matthew McConaghadyasoygty(sp) for stealing an hour of my life. (He produced and "starred" in the movie.) My wife is partially to blame but I'll give her a pass!

Maybe the worst ever...

The book was much better than the movie.

Slumdog Millionaire - 9/10.

And it just won 4 Golden Globe Awards. Specially proud moment for me as I grew up in India.

The original score in the movie is by A. R. Rahman, very inspiring.

ETA: Sorry amandak I didnt notice you had already mentioned this one.

The Mirrors (horror) 7.5/10

better than I thought it would be. Some great gory moments but they tried too hard with the plot at times and there were a couple loopholes. Good scare though!
