Met up with Robin and Penny this am. Great couple. Robin is very lucky. She was a stellar assistant at the Zoo. Robin knows all the great locations and exactly what times the animals will be where. Had tremendous fun and learned a great deal. No access to upload pics now but did get to see them on the TV via video cable. Very happy. [Robin, they came out...;)teeth and all]
Now about the traffic.......(and I was going the opposite way of the rush)........
Very happy with the Sigma 50-500. Tri-pod mounted it is very solid at capturing the picture in my minds eye. Discards due to blurring are minimal. (note: Both times I've shot animals with it, it was sunny. Great help.) |

Sometimes it is good to be the underdog. (Danny, Robin had high praise for you today). Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of the shooters. Expecting to be overwhelmed. The canon onslaught beginneth.

Dan
Penny and I had a great time today :) And thanks again for the nice breakfast.
I have to admit we did crash and burn when we got home. We have been running so much all week we were very tired when we got home. But we plan on being very well rested for Saturday so you had better clean your camera and lenses!
ROFLOL
Our new pomeranian puppy Brandy and our older pomeranian Chase wanted to play after being home alone all morning and all we wanted to do was crash.
LOL
I did to much goofing off with trial and error today but I did get some nice pics. I have not really looked at them all, but here is one of the Red Tail Hawk Dan and I had the chance to shoot.
The only thing I did to this shot was level adjustment no sharpening or etc:
Glad to hear you and the GPS system made it through the Fort Worth/Dallas traffic ok :)
Dan did manage to get 3 nice shots of the Jaguar with his mouth wide open as he was yawning! and I was busy with other things.
For the rest of us I say we are in trouble this Saturday, I think Dan (Flash) is a sleeper or a very fast learner! He had some very nice captures this afternoon and the Texas shootout is going to be tough!
Dan has come very well prepared and will be one to watch that is for sure.

Here is another shot from our trip today with Dan (Flash).
We did notice one of the animals missing today and when I inquired as to where the animal was, were quietly let in on a very big secret :) I will tell you all Saturday. LOL

Robin,
Great pics. Were you on jpeg at this point or still in RAW? Detail is 1st rate. You really have the eye/lense line down. It truly is so much more dynamic to get the subject looking directly into the lense. Studying your style and seeing the items you concentrate on helped tremendously. My understanding of "photography" and the elements that go into a photograph vs. a snapshot have grown rapidly. I appreciate your help.
When I was reviewing my shots, I actually had "some" with correct exposure throughout the entire frame. Very exciting to me.
2 things about the D70 that really standout for me. 1 is how long the battery lasts. The second is how user friendly it is, once you understand the menu. Very gald I graduated.

The prospects for rain seem to be pretty high.
Do the animals do the sensible thing and shelter from the bad weather too ?
Is there a back up plan ? :)

At least 70% chance, and the call is for possibly one inch or more...doesn't look good. I am going to bow out gracefully, as I will be of no use to my students or my school next week during the TAKS test (our state assessment for all kids grades 3-12) if I get sick from playing in the rain tomorrow. Plus, a 2 1/2 hour drive in the rain doesn't appeal to my inner paranoid driver!

Backup plan? Hrmmmm, I have studio lights and backdrop, we could find some willing models and do some studio shooting... Gordon, you bring your fishnet stockings and we'll start with you! :-D

The trip is still go!
Everyone except Laurie is still going. She does not want to drive that long trip alone if it is raining. Which I can pefectly understand.
Besides they way they predict weather we will probably have sunshine!
It is still meet in the parking lot at 9:00 am and tour at 10:00.
I mentioned from the start it was rain or shine :)
And I'm not afraid of the rain. We will just all pile into the open air van with the canvas top.
I'm going over my equipment now. Cleaning camera body, all lenses and tighten the srews in the tripod :)

Danny, I'm still going, I'll meet you where we planned. I'll park as close to the entrance off of Arapaho as I can so you will see my Gold Toyota Tundra and me as soon as you get to the parking lot.

I've got my fedora, my insulin, and my camera bag already packed. Can't decide whether to take the monopod or tripod. |

What a great day is all Penny & I have to say!
Even with the little rain we had to endure the tour was great!
Here is one of my group shots from today :)
The person to the left of MeThoS was his Uncle.
I will post some wildlife shots after I crash and rest a bit.
I just sent out a thank you to all the members that joined the tour.

And MeThoS we all hope you have a very safe trip back to Kansas! Please drive carefull :)
Also a "BIG" thank you to Crabappl3 for the great name tags!!
