Hi

Who has experience designing these cards for //www.moo.com?

I've uploaded the template from their site, but want to know if I have to use the inside ruler or the outside ruler. You know, for bleeding (that's how they call it).
The design I'm doing right now is very specific and has to be perfect ;)

Edit: and how about quality? Does it need high-res-photos?

Idnic had a thread awhile ago about this. Someone in that thread might be able to help.

I know. But I'm never sure what I'm reading is what it is. Sometimes I read something in English and didn't understand right.

I just wanna know which ruler to maintain. Inside or outside. The template is confusing me.

I think from this:

Each file has guides to show the bleed, the trimmed size of the cards, and the safe area.

If you would like your images to fill the entire card, please make sure the image fills the whole document area, as this includes the bleed. It will make sure there are no white edges around your cards.

Make sure all important parts of your image are well within the marked ‘safe’ area.

That there would be three rectangular areas. The outer limit defines the bleed,
the next defines the trimmed size and the inner most area defines what you can expect to see on all cards (the safe area)

You may well get cards cut that contain more than the 'trimmed' area - that's the point of having a bleed area - it may or may not end up on your final card.

It isn't that precise a cut - if you want it on the card, have it inside the inner most rectangle. From there on out it is potentially going to get cut.

Anything inside the green 'safe area' will be on your card. Everything else is subject to the whim of the cutter, is how I read it. The bleed most likely will not be on the cards, other than the very edge.

Or, to put it another way

The bleed is NOT supposed to be on the final card (but might be)
Anything white in the diagram above IS supposed to be on the final card (but might not be)
Anything within the green rectangle WILL be on the final card.

Thanks a lot.

Pfff.. dilemma. I just need to be sure that that "ghost" part is or is not on the final card, haha. I uploaded a template I made, and on the preview it looked fine (and WITH all of the "ghost" part).

I just had a look at a set of 100 moo-cards that I got printed - 10 images, repeated 10 times. There's a difference of a few millimeters between each cut, so trying to design it so that a thin line exists at the edge or whatever would be tricky/ impossible.

The whole point of the bleed/ ghost part is that part of it will be on some of the final cards, but not all of them.
