Sometime ago I was upset when a artistic expression project I was working on with a friend abruptly came to an end and he had decided not to show these paintings in Columbia at the show they were intended for. But today I got an email from him updating me on our artistic collaboration.
I have done quite a few photos for him and from those photos he created a series of paintings. Most of the paintings are at Ricco Maresca in New York City, along with some collages he created from old yearbooks. However, he has some of them at his home and he uploaded them this week to his website John D Monteith just click on the paintings 2002 link when you get there.
After two years of painstaking work with him I am finally able to say hey look at what art we did create together. Its a long awaited moment of triumph for me when I thought this project had been shoved aside and stuck in some closet somewhere.

Very cool stuff. Was the model covered in plaster?

No actually I was covered in a shaving cream mixture. Thats what makes thes all so fantastic. He told me what kind of look he wanted and I did self portraits for him and then he painted them.

Do you get paid a lot when he sells those?

There have been a lot of little perks along the way. Like his knowledge of the art world, he has taught me a lot and been a wonderful mentor to me. And yeah, I do get paid when he sells them.

Just curious - if he painted those from photographs...what was the painstaking part? |

I suspect the question is about the other model who's featured in the photographs and paintings - she looks covered in something a lot thicker than shaving cream

The other model on the site is a friend of his there locally. She is covered in a mixture of tinted shaving cream. The photos he has posted there were taken with a low end Logictech camera.
