My uncle and to-be Aunt want me to take wedding announcement shots for them. They are not very picky and they didn't want to spend any money. They have seen some of the pictures I have done and have really enjoyed them. The only problem is, is that I have never really taken pictures of people, like posing before. They just want me to make them a 4x6 print. Any suggestions would be most helpful. Thanks for your time! |

I have done several of these for friends. I usually do them outside in an informal setting. If they plan to run it in a newspaper, they will likely need a b/w 5x7 print.

Use the best light you can (last 30 minutes of the daylight, or first 30 minutes) make the woman look good. Get them to dress in complimentary clothes (not matching! but not clashing)

make sure you take lots of pictures of lots of posses, and tell them to move around. like for example, have some of them holding around eachother, and some where they are holding hands but pulling apart, looking at eachother and smiling (my fiance and i used one like that).. don't center their heads in the middle of the frame, use framing to your advantage (like frame creativly).. like have the womans body in the center with the man off to one side (if they are close), and perhaps one of the better tips (i think) don't take all the pictures straight on. set them up like you were going to take one straigt on, then go to the side about 30 degrees and take a few from there, and get them to look at you... or not |

These are some I took of my best friend and her fiance'. We shot around sundown, and in the local park. They didn't come out as well as I had hoped... but they were happy with them! (they are a bit distorted, the hosting site resizes of 250K.. and these were full size!)
My friends photos #1 (Just for Fun)
#2(another in the running to use)
#3(The one they used)
#4(Another Just for fun)
#5 (tinkered with in PS, and it's KISSY!) LoL

Thanks all! It turned out great and your suggestions were most helpful! I will post up the shots when I get back home from California. For the record, just have it be you and the two that are happily engaged, otherwise you get 4 or 5 other "photographers" who follow you (my cousins) and give you suggestions, I found it most annoying, oh well.
PS It's really quite warm here, it sure burst my cold snap lack of inspiration. I have taken close to 150 pictures in the last two days. My family thinks I am completely weird for doing so, but oh well.
