I received an odd message from a bag head on my Heaven shot. He/she indicated that the image is effective (sorry I can't be more specific) but was not receiving a good score. I'm curious to find out who that is when the voting is finished. |

Well, my heaven entry's doing about what I expected: several comments saying it's cool (including from TSers) but a mediocre score because it's not tack sharp. |

It is a cool shot. Can't score it, 'cause I know which one it is, but am not surprised you are getting some good comments! |

My heaven shot is doing pretty well....6.19 and I got a very nice comment from juliboc.
I just looked outside and we have about 5 inches of snow and it's snowing still. I guess we could get up to 14 inches. I'm retired, I don't know why I stay here!!! Whaaaaaa!!

i have a comment on my heaven score complaining about the major element that makes it look 'heavenly', and missing the evidence that actually refutes the complaint. ah well. but, aside from that, very good, not all positive, constructive comments and a reasonable score of 5.5.

My Hell's on 4.9 - Julianne says it's wonderful. |

We got about 8 inches of snow so far and up to 12 inches is predicted. |

No snow here, but we did have clouds today! And I really wish I'd done the Hell thing so I had something to talk about all week... Ah well. I've done thrown something in for the eBay thing. It won't do well but to a few it may be amusing, sorta. |

I had to go out in that! The wind is making it really bad. Sometimes you couldn't see the road (which was only 2 tracks). Big drifts out there! |

Bleah - I saw that it was heavier up north. We were on the line between rain and snow last night. It was raining at 4 AM and now (1PM) we have at least 6 inches on the ground. It's flat here, the wind is blowing, so the kids probably won't have school tomorrow. That means the neighborhood will be in my house. God help me...

Its this time of year that I love Phoenix the most. The low last night was 45 and the high today is in the mid 60's. I can live with that. |

Sounds like all you Northerners are going to have a white Christmas. Isn't that what all the singing is about? :P |

I have read and re-read the definition of Wabi-Sabi and even gone further and researched it online. I am no closer to understanding it now than I was when I started. I believe I may have a photo that fits my definition, but I am afraid I probably just don't get it.
Oh well, like I say before each and every challenge, I do not care about scores because I really like this photo. |

I doubt the majority of the voters are going to go to the trouble you have. I'm not even sure they are going to pick up on the "imperfections" part of the details. Many just look at the title of the challenge which is Beauty in The Everyday. I'm torn at the moment between a shot that includes imperfections and one that doesn't. |

Here's a couple of quick snaps of the snowstorm.

It is, but I note Julianne's point about the imperfections. I think it'll be pretty much irrelevant in terms of garnering votes (the horror!), but there's some importance attached to this 'imperfection' thing. I think it may be something along the lines of the patina of use, or the chip on the rim of your favourite teacup, or it may be the way that hand-made or organic things betray the process of their creation in their form. In any case, as I see it, the really hard thing is to take a picture that shows the beauty of the thing-that-is-not-perfect, without seeming to concentrate on its imperfection. Make any sense so far? No? Then I have successfully expressed my impression of wabi-sabi :-)
I've got a pretty one in the works and it wouldn't surprise me much if I haven't managed a true-to-challenge-definition one by Tuesday.

Terry, as for snow storm shots, I like the shovelers the best. It gives me a good feel for the enormous inconvenience of snow. The landscape with the swing is very pretty, and perhaps would qualify for Wabi-Sabi, as Mary said, because it is beautiful and everyday, and the fence is beginning to fall apart.
I just decided to put in the shot with the imperfections. I moved the shot without the imperfections to Free Study. I'm sure the voters will be able to find many imperfections in the Free Study shot, but not the sort that would qualify for Wabi-Sabi, just the sort that qualify for a brown ribbon. |

Yes, it did snow. There was blowing and drifting too.

I went for a nice drive today in the snow. :) I did not think to take my camera though.
We have about one foot of snow so far, and it is still coming.
"Oh, the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."

Well, I'd sure like to have something else other than this damn ice!!!
I'm sitting here in the house with no power on the battery in the kid's laptop while Lisa is trying to find a space heater or tow so we can keep the pipes from freezing.
A prayer or two would be helpful......I'm cold.....8>( |

Bmartuch's photo of the church in the snow gave me an idea for Wabi-Sabi. Wait for the snowplows and sanders to mess up the fresh snow, and then retake this beautiful shot. |
