Grrr...I KNEW the Canon ad was too good to be true!!! Even verified the info with this person last night on the phone...only to arrive to find out the camera had been misrepresented! Damn! Wasted a whole day and a half a tank of gas....

I'm a bit annoyed with my bokeh as well, for the same reason as posthumous. It's sitting on a 5.2 with 0 comments, and admittedly it's a bit of a dull shot, but I really thought it's one of the most DPC friendly things I've ever submitted. I guess I'll have to reconsider my notion of DPC-friendly. On the other hand, my motivational poster (which I thought was rubbish and cliched, and barely got myself to enter) has happily been sitting on a 5.7 all week.

Can't wait to see how my impressionism shot does though :) It's, um, the most impressionistic shot I've ever taken, and submitted almost in minimal editing. Hell, I like it.
I've got a shot in Candy as well - thank you levyj413 for giving me feedback on it! :)

Oh, and I'm still in Belgrade, and a friend and I managed to dispose of a wasp nest this morning! (I really should have brought my camera - there was this great big ominous buzzing black wave that came out of the thing as we ran for the door!)
I'm flying back to the UK tomorrow, and looking forward to being home again :)

You're welcome. What prompted it was:
a) You left me several nice comments and
b) You have one HELL of a portfolio! :)

In fact, it was all I could do not to flood this thread with thumbs, and in fact, I can resist no longer.

re: Bokeh

I don't know if this matters at all, but... when I first went to the thumbnail page, I was ASTONISHED at how alike all the thumbnails looked. There is a ton of DPC-friendly images but unfortunately all of them might be blending together in the eyes of the voters.

Guys, TS challenge for the open/close challenges:

Capture the following verse in an image -

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

:)

e. e. cummings

that is the last stanza of one of my very favoritest poems, certainly my favorite love poem.

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously)her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility:whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

I suck at least 50% of the time, especially in challenges, and the other 50% do ok most of the time, and occasionally with a bit of luck, I have some excellent results, and they accpted me.....

Thanks for sharing.

I'm pleased to report my Impressionism is at 5.2 and free-falling. Well, I'm not pleased to report the score - mostly I'm pleased to report that one viewer (currently anonymous) really likes it, and that is a very nice thing indeed. It's a shot that I quite love, but fear that it appeals only to me. And those kind of shots are risky for challenges, but kinda fun to submit for the rare times, like this one, when at least one other person gets something from it.

So to those of you who worry about scores, remember that there are indeed other forms of gratification - even if in some cases you are the only one who likes it. That still makes it a worthwhile shot.

And I'm now sub-5 on Impressionism. (See, Shez? We all get bargain basement scores now and then... it's a thing.)

Nice score you have going, Kelli!!

I am not doing that much better Deb, but slowly creeping up a little at 5.37

I have four entries running and they're all sub-5. One of them's even good and deserves better.

My sub-5 is one of my favorite shots in awhile. I have a good comment from a Team Sucker, too! It's one that simply will not appeal to many, and probably doesn't meet the challenge. And in fact it may indeed suck. But I still like it just fine.

Spent half a day getting this just right in camera - play of light, brush strokes, primary color - trying not to take this hard, but it's a struggle. I'm really pleased with the shot and while not a ribbon winner, it isn't crap either.

This discouraged feeling will pass, I know, but hurry up already! :)

Karen, based on your work in the blur side challenge, I'm quite sure it's freakin' awesome. They should have limited the voters in this one to those who participated in that side exercise. :-)

I have a 5.7 in impressionism. I'm ok with that score but I really thought it would score a little higher. I really like it though so...
I think some voters are being a tad closed minded or something.

my bokeh is going down slowly but i am still happy with it. if it doesnt drop too much more it will be close to my top score. and i like the shot so that is a real plus to get a good score and like the shot too.

Thanks, Deb, I needed a pick-me-up. :)

Great score David!

Multiple ramblings.

Don't worry Karen, I'm sure your image is terrific and most of the Team suck group will love it. It's a tough challenge to enter, since there are so many preconceived notions of what a Impressionist shot should look like.

ah... e.e. cummings. Wonderful poet that brought a lot of new developments into the art of poetry. Always great stuff to read, yet at the same time I always felt that his brilliant work also contributed to the lack resonance in today's "aspiring poets". (that's a different debate).

Don, incidentally, terrific poem you included previously. I love the connection to DPC and a wonderful read.

Continuing the trend set by Jeffrey, here are some wonderful photos by Team Suck member, Bob bmartuch

Lastly, Score checking for me (though impressionism is boring, imo):

Hey, Deb, that's the spirit (and have heart Karen!). My impressionism shot is at 5.2, but I really like it, and my one commenter so far loves it. :)

I think there are people who are voting down anything resembling heavy-handed use of Photoshop filters, whether perceived or real. In my case, I got the effect in camera, but of course voters really can't tell. So I'm not too concerned about the score.

But I'm thrilled for Kelli and Jayson. :)

Jeffrey, you were asking about those things in some of my pictures. That is some of the leftover junk for the Brighton West Pier in the UK. I'm kind of a slacker when it comes to replying to emails.

I quite like the thing Jeffrey started and Jayson picked up on. So here, for no other reason than we are Team Suck, are some shots from colorcarnival

Eve, I've been meaning to tell you that even though the "too good to be true" deal fell through on the dSLR, have you considered still getting one? I know that B&H is VERY reputable - they may have the older models of the Rebel at a good price (haven't looked lately). But just think of how much you'll use it, and what you'll get out of it, and you'll see it's a very worthwhile investment. (Just trying to share the obsession....)
