I want to keep this thread going. You guys have some great shots!

Not a great day for me, but here's what I got at the Buffalo Bills training camp on Monday. I'm used to being on the sidelines when I shoot football (community college), but then, I don't shoot the NFL! In a way, it was kinda fun climbing around the stands to get a decent angle. I can't wait to get back out there this season.

ETA:
Does anyone else have problems with the sigma 70-200 with a 1.4x TC?
I may be spoiled by my 300/4 and canon 70-200/4 which take my tamron TC wonderfully.

it's not 'always' about the action. it's the people and the environment, as well.

the action can by dynamic...

or, it might be that there's no action at all, and then that's the story

it might be a moment

or action

or a different way of seeing the action

or a different type of action

the thing is, you have to constantly be looking and always be shooting.

i wish there were more "extreme" sports photographers here
i think those sports have a lot to offer the photography world
(snow boarding, sking, skate boarding, mountain biking, bmx, ect.)

here are a few of mine, some old some... well not so recent

Caught a Gateway Grizzlies game tonight. Didnt do it as an assignment, took my wife, son, and brother to a game tonight. I took some shots of my son and then just before the game was over I took a couple of "action" shots. Here is one to post. Was nice to view a baseball game from beyond the viewfinder.

I shoot the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX DG with a 2x tele (the one designed for the lens) without any problems. :) (not used for these shots btw)

wow... great shots everyone!

I must say that I find some irony in the fact that Skip's highest rated photo (an incredible 8.31!) is called "absolute still" and is a night time tripod type shot of a city.

The man that is amazing at shooting sports and action. hehehehe

Proves he is more than just a one trick pony!

I'm going to bump this. HS sports seasons start this next week here and I'll be shooting. Hopefully everyone else's season is gearing up as well and we can keep this thread rolling.

Thanks for bumping this! I just shot a tri last weekend and have another one lined up in a couple of weeks!! I also might be shooting an open water swim this weekend!!! Plus football season is starting soon!!!! I'll have lots to post in the coming weeks.

BTW, Does anyone have any suggestions for an open water swim? At a triathlon I'd shoot the start and exit, and get what I can in between. I guess I'll be using my 300 + 1.4, but shooting from shore I'm still not sure how to approach this yet. Any ideas?

I agree. Action sports photography is quite a bit different from shooting 'normal' sports, and so are the images, so they add variety.

I'm going to try to get my local paper to cover more of the skating and BMX (racing mainly) scene; they've printed plenty of photos of both but they're just to illustrate a story about a new skatepark, or fillers because it's a slow day and they cruise around looking for stuff to shoot and print. I think there are some locals who'll be going on to bigger tournaments, possibly getting sponsored, etc, and it would be cool to cover them and their progress. And of course they'd need proper riding photos to illustrate the story, that's where I'd come in :p
