It's not that I'm just saying that whenever someone has an idea, a thought, whatever someone else just comes straight out from behind a door and tries to shoot it down.
I haven't been on this site nearly as long as most of this other people but I with about 10 to 15 people that I talk to I don't know how many times I have heard them say that this site just isn't what it used to be. Or that they don't say anything in threads because of assholes. Or I was accused once of knowing it all. AGHHH BS.
I enjoy submitting pictures and having votes but I think I am getting robbed on some shots. Backsides for sure... I am entirely disappointed with this site I'm seriously thinking about finding another.
Some say go, what's one person??? Well it's not just me. It's thousands. I agree with Leroy... This site is going down hill and something needs to be done about it.
OH and Erick as far as looking for your first post on your idea, blaa... I don't feel like looking thru all this to find it. I just read what you had posted a few times prior to when I posted. You were just the first sucker to respond to mine.
Although I have heard good stuff about you... and you are a damn good photographer my thoughts are still up in the air but what do I matter right.

well several have said there is no problem but you won't accept that. you complain about fighting but you response to Erick's comment that was not directed at you in particular seemed to be provoking( at least a little) you may think you shots are gettign robbed so go to eyefetch where everyone votes crazy high and blows smoke up your ass ans see if you actually improve. I ams ure you would like to get more comments to help you improve but if you do some work yourself a score can help just as much. look at the shots that are above you and try to objectively ask why they scored higher. you will be able to pick out things here and there to help you improve. but if you jsut want high scores head on over to eyefetch, you will be back. |

I like this idea a lot.
Vote. Vote. Vote.
Call a vote on this!
Even 10 percent would help.

I don't often vote anymore, but then I only enter VERY few challenges, too.
Both of those facts are due to the huge numbers of entries. I do hope that one day something will be done to improve the situation a little.
When I DO vote, I want to vote on the WHOLE challenge, not just 20%. I keep hearing that it shouldn't matter, but it does to ME.
I find those huge challenges overwhelming, and there is nothing anyone can say to make me like them. |

What if having your entry pulled at turnover was a good thing (i.e. low scoring entry)? |

yea people just wait till the end to see if they want to vote, then you get a bunch of hurried votes at the end that may not even be valid opinions. |

I thik that Joe has a great idea. Force people to vote on a challenge, doesn't have to be the one or two they are entered in, but make them vote to either see their score, or like swhiddon said, pull the image from the submission.
On another note, everyone always claims to not have time to vote, but they always have time to come in these forums and argue the same points week after week. Or go to a virtual bar to act like they have a life.

It seems obvious that the sharp increase in challenge entries is due directly to DPL - you are, after all, FORCING hundreds of members to submit to challenges they would not otherwise have submitted to.
To me, the solution seems obvious: Limit the number of DPL teams!.
I hate to say it, but the best way would be to require Free Agents to have a minimum qualifying score - a seed average of 6 or higher for instance. Just like in pro sports, every Tom, Dick & Harry can't just come along & play and what has happened here with the DPL is a good example why!
Another less brutal method would be to do it as a lottery - cap the number of teams formed AND randomly assign who is on each team from the pool of Free Agents. I'd still suggest a minimum qualification score, but it could be lower in this case - say a seed average of just 5. Random assignment would force high scoring members to interact closely with lower scoring ones and therefore help spread knowledge & learning about our craft.

That's a bit harsh. What about you can only enter if you have voted in the previous week's challenge or something to that effect? In case if it's not obvious I'm not in favor of punishments as a way to get people to vote more.

When you force someone to do something they don't want to do, do you really think their input is going to be fair? With all the crying about low votes because of DPL just think of all the tears that'll be shed when you start making people vote on images they don't want to.
I'll go ahead and get my canoe ready. |

Oh, one more idea I forgot to throw in: Cap the number of entries possible on one, some or all the challenges to 200 entries. Make it first entered, first accepted. That would suck for me though because I always seem to enter at literally the last minute or so... |

That'd be a very good invitational challenge.

I think the low votes/DPL conspiracy theory is bullshit.
I think more challenges or limiting the number of entries per challenge would make it easier to vote and more enticing to do so - as has been suggested by about five hundred people time and again. Certainly an order of magnitude more than the number of people who clamored for expert/minimal rulesets.
I do not understand why the suggestion goes nowhere.

Feel free to check my profile page. Every once in a while I enter one, and every so often I force myself to vote (always on a different challenge, though).
Don't worry, I'm not a free-loader, I still do my share. |
