I don't vote in many challenges now..because it's very hard to vote on all submissions (which is what I try to do WHEN I vote).
obviously...voting 100% on challenges with 200 entries works better for me than even attempting to vote 100% on challenges with 350+ entries. not limiting entries does give pokey butts like me time to get entry in...but if # of entries is limited folks, such as myself, would either have to get off duff and entry or be left out...goals and deadlines really do help procrastinators, again...like me, correct bad habits :-)

summation? limit entries...so that it is possible to vote the full challenge.

Yes, create divisions while submissions are taking place. The first 200 are in Division 1 and division 2 and so on. Or just split it up at the final rollover into two divisions. Procrastinators will most likely be entered into the second division submitting at 8:59 PM or whenever rollover happens for them.

Double the Exclusive Challenges...but one entry only..and vote only on the remaining three that you didn't enter...even with the Members...new rule if you wanna vote, vote on the one you didn't enter..

Addendum:
Maybe the ONLY requirement..could be, that of these Challenges that you vote on....you have to do the 20%..or lack of voting will remove your image in your chosen Challenge

Here's a different idea than I have seen so far.

When you elect to vote a challenge, instead of getting all of the images for that challenge in one random group to vote on, you will only see 100 randomly chosen images to vote on.

There are enough people voting so that even though each only would vote for only 100 images or less this way, I feel that the averages would level out in the end.

This would make it much less of a daunting task to vote a challenge, and the voter could elect to vote on another 100 images from the challenge if they want to when the first 100 are done.

Why is someone who disagrees an asshole, I'd like to know that.

but votes could work like money.
You want votes in your entry, right? so, buy them!

let's say.
- Your entry will only be available for voting if the number of votes cast is greater than the number of votes received.
- Like this, you need to vote if you want to receive votes

That's fair ;)

nice idea but couldn't work because there are people that vote and don't enter which means that you could never catch up.

well ok if you voted on the other exclusive everytime i guess you could nevermind.

wanna know why people vote and comment less? last night i was inpsired a bit by thisthread and started voting and commenting. woke up this morning to this PM

"-------------------------" For someone interested in the visual arts you don't see very well, by having to ask that question the photo deserves more than a two for Christ sake!

i blanked out where they quoted my comment so as not to call them out publicly, but why the hell should i justify what MY vote is. This makes me not want to vote anymore. (well except to make sure i vote 20% on that challenge so that the vote in question does in fact count now.

Come on man, leaving a comment explaining that you voted a '2' on this site is the same as signing the brick you just threw through someone's window. The reaction is hardly suprising, or have you missed the threads explaining how no picture is as lousy as you think?

* add more exclusive challenges, end the insanity *

I'd like to know why too. Just because they disagree they are suddenly an asshole? Why the hostility? If you want civility, be civil.

I just want to ask, Have you never reacted to something without thinking it thru first?

never sent someone an an angry email about thier vote.

so you think this kind of behaviour is ok?

No not okay, but not worth retaliating against. I know tons of people that write or say what they later wish they didn't. It's only made worst when retaliation takes place.

Add another member challenge weekly and another pair of exclusive challenges. Require a person to vote 500 votes a month to be qualified to enter these new challenges.
Would help expand the site and maybe promote voting.

Just have some challenges that are only open to those who have more votes than they've recieved. They've done it for comments...

It is mathematically impossible for anyone to assure themselves of qualifying with either of these scenarios ...

This sounds like a great idea to me. Question is would the non-voters really care?

if there is no consequence then the behavior will not stop. maybe next time they think about being mean to someone they will think twice because they don't want their vote even lower. my kids do things wrong that lots of kids do but i still discipline them for it in hopes they will not do it again.

Then those who have insisted on not giving back at least what they've received from the site during their membership would be excluded. If there were enough of these challenges perhaps the photographers who would be excluded would start to vote.

What a shame.... I've learned more on DPC by voting, checking how my votes compare in general and commenting than even by submitting photos....

I agree, that without some sort of consequence or better yet, rewards for desired behavior, it would be erroneous to assume it will change.
