I need your thoughts on this. I have been using Acdsee 6 for a few months now since I tried all the rest like Photo album 2 etc and found it to be quite good. Version 5 was fine but the new version 6 seemed to be slower opening up. Someone told me to use the fastest of all which is CompuPic 6.2 and it's indeed quite fast opening up and making all the thumbnails. It lacks some features that I was used to acdsee but it's faster so it will do for now. Anyone use this software? |

I am currently an ACDSee 5 user. I had tried the trial version of ACDSee 6 but found exactly what you are complaining of with it being much slower in starting up and with Thumbnail generation. I used it for something like 3 or 4 days and then uninstalled and re-installed my ACDSee 5.
I haven't tried the CompuPic software you are talking about so I can't comment on that. I'm just going to stick with ACDSee 5. and PhotoShop 7 for now.

I stayed with ACDsee5 as well (6 was too slow. I just regret the multiple folder selection).
Somehow they are not the same tools, Photoshop album is a pure catalog view, you cannot browse easily your hard drive ..... I did not like it. Too slow and I need a catraloger/live browser like acdsee, not a pure catalog
I do not remember compupic.
ACDsee 5 is fast, I use it as my picture browser and quick viewer. The display quality is good but not 'top of the top'. Acdsee6 is sllooooow to open.
I use breezebrowser as the quality viewer and html generation (plus some of my canon raw conversion).

Breezebrowser is another option, Zeus.
I have used breezebrowser for over a year and been perfectly happy with it. Now I got a new notebook and am wondering if I want to reload breezebrowser or should I try ACDSee. My boyfriend likes it better for some reason. Anyone else? |

I just upgraded to ACDSee 6.0.2 (from 5.0.something) over the weekend. I originally wasn't going to switch to 6, but they offered me a great deal on ACDSee 6 PowerPack and Canvas 9 (my favorite illustration program), so I couldn't pass it up.
I don't notice ACDSee 6 being any slower than 5 when starting up. I've been a user and fan of ACDSee for a long time. I do regularly evaluate the latest releases of other tools (like ThumbsPlus and CompuPic), and although "familiarity" may play a key role, I always end up sticking with ACDSee as my browser.
My favorite ACD Systems product is mPower Tools. I love being able to right-click on an image and see a thumbnail of it (since I don't like viewing entire folders as "Thumbnails" in Windows). It also has a "media bar" that is supposed to make finding and opening images in other programs really quick, but I haven't played with that feature at all.

I tried Breezebrowser for a while, but I think Acdsee is better in every way. |

Well... I use this kind of programs for browsing purposes only and I think CompuPic pro is the fastest in opening and generating thumbnails. Acdsee has more options but way to slow to open. I will try the other two you mentioned to see what they are like. I even tried JASC photo album or whatever is called and it's not too good also thumbsplus and another one from Ulead |
