Very random post, but I'm just frustrated.... Paid little over $1200 for my camera and some other stuff (i know y'all have spent alot more but I'm only 19 lol), and with stuff going on i haven't taken more than 3 pictures in the last 2 months. I dunno whats going on, i just don't have the same motivation i did before, I don't even know where to start, what to shoot. I really don't want that $1200 to be a waste and find myself with a camera collecting dust. I'm hoping my trip to California will give me some more motivation to get out there again. When i first had i camera i was out there every day taking pictures, I'm not sure what happened. Any of you guys every have times like this?? Ok I'm done lol

I get frustrated if I'm not getting good shots on a fairly regular basis, but 3 shots in 2 months is a low I hope I never hit... get out there! Shoot! You'll bump the slump eventually.

take a break from DPC, it did me the world of good as i was trying to hard for the site and lost complete interest. Take some time, plan some self projects that will be ongoing. Me i planned a project to take street photography for Dublin in 2007. This helped me get over hte low shooting slump as it focus my mind back to shooting.
Remember shoot for yourself and the creative flow will start again

No its not that, i WANT to shoot, i just dont lol i dunno why. Nothing around here interests me. Out of the last 2 months only 7-10 days have been nice weather, the rest was rain. That was a big part of me not wanting to take pictures, i cant stand being out in the rain trying to photograph stuff..I want to get out of British Columbia so bad sometimes, we get the crappiest weather here, it really sucks. Thats why im hopeing my time in California will change my attitude a bit. Im headed up there for 10 days at the end of april so that will be a nice change.

edit: after checking the weather report, there expecting rain for the next 10 days lol, peachy. Perhaps ill try to head out tomorrow and shoot some stuff, hope i can figure out WHAT i wanna shoot. Thats always the hardest part for me.

try joining your local photography clubs. find active members that do outings frequently. or just find a friend that loves photography as much as you do, and exchange ideas, and go out shooting together (travel a bit, perhaps?). it may help.

Hey man, I took 2600 shots in march. Yeah, the weather sucked, but I found stuff to shoot. I'll load up the 'ol portfolio once the free study is over...

I shot in almost entirely good weather. Pretty much every time the sun was out, I was too.

My suggestion: Think what genre/field of photography you find yourself weakest or perhaps most shy about. Is it street candids? Studio/model work? Getting up at 4 am and hiking to a killer sunrise in the wild? I ask myself this at least once a week and continually find myself challenged and enthralled with the wonderous world we live in and how we can use photography to capture it.

One thing about BC is when we have nice weather its VERY nice, Last thursday was amazing, It was around 7:00pm, the sky was one giant storm cloud, it was almost black, yet the sunset was perfectly angled so that everything (buildings, mountains etc) were almost a goldish color. I wish i had my camera so bad but it was at home. We dont get many days like that and i was pretty bummed that i missed it. Ive made up my mind to go up to agazzi tomorrow morning, its pretty nice up there, should get some nice shots i hope. Anyone got some suggestions bout what i could try photographing? I have a hard time coming up with ideas, my shots tend to be fairly static, want to try something unusual but that also looks nice lol. We'll see what i come up with, ill maybe post some shots tomorrow if i like them lol. Night night.

edit: i wish i had a lens with more range lol, only got the 50/1.8 atm, I wanna get back into photography before i dump another $500 on a lens lol :P

Just some random suggestions, I have done some of them.
shoot real low, like less than two feet off the ground the whole time.
study shadows, and try and emphasize them.
I don't know what or where agazzi is but if it is a city, pick a shape like a circle and take as many photos of circles you can find.
If you still have your 18-55. Shoot only at 18 mm.
shoot candids
if its out in nature, focus on rocks or trees.
take only photos that have green in them somewhere
shoot only with a tripod, to work on interesting compositions
find some random thing and take 25 shots of it, from all angles, close, far, backlit, light from the sides and straight on, etc.
if you use your 50 mm 1.8 shoot at 1.8 and try and isolate things.
I find sometimes making an exercise out of shooting and studying somethign will get me interested again.

I got the same problem at the moment ...
It's rare I upload something, because of my camera.. In a month I will get some new stuff and at that time I think I will go crazy.
Just walk in the street and shoot everywhere (pretty much like that Velco guy actually).
You could also find a band and ask them if they want some band shoots.
Hope this could help you .. : )

I took over 1500 shots in 3 days and have barely shot since as I have been so busy processing the multitude. I am feeling kind of down though, hope I can snap out of it.

Hmm good ideas, ill keep that in mind. lol seems like the weather picks TODAY to snow... snowing pretty good, so i dunno if ill make the trip out to agazzi (fyi, agazzi is a tiny little town thats pretty much left untouched by development and stuff, really pretty country up there) for some pics, ill see what there is to see round town. Just hope the snow dies down a bit, i hate driving in it lol.

LOL i was getting ready to shell out for a K10D, Lenses and a whole studio setup. I bought my A630 to replace my P&S... now i feel like i wont even make use of the slr.

Between the jam packed features making it so much better then my old camera, my truck breaking down and my complete lack of a great neighborhood.

Sometimes I get into a shooting funk like this (my last one lasted a year). When this happens, I have to force myself to get outside with my camera. Sometimes that is painful, but once I am out there with my camera, I take photos. This is sometimes all it takes to shake me out of the funk.

Now I just wish I could think of somewhere new to go shooting, somewhere that I do not have to drive for an hour.....

Damn man, get out there!! Its supposed to sunny up today, you could get some sweet shots! It wasn't very much snow, so driving wont be a problem. That dusting will be off the roads in no time.

Speaking of snow, it looks like whistler got some fresh. I know where I'll be shooting tomorrow...

More places in van go to shoot (I'm giving up my secrets...)

-Stanley Park (western seawall at sunset)
-For that matter, any of the western beaches from Stanley park all the way to Wreck beach are great in the evening light

-Sea to Sky. Head up towards Squamish/Whistler and bring your hiking boots (or snowboard).

-The north shore, summer or winter

-Downtown, great for street photography

-Granville Island

-UBCs Botanical Gardens (old photo...whatever)

-The aquarium (your 50 1.8 would be great there)

Anyway, theres a list of a bunch of locations I've shot at in the past couple months, and I have a long, long list of "to dos" this summer when I can get out on the hiking trails. Hope that helps!

edit***
I forgot to say, don't go anywhere without your camera!!!
