my photographs get so many comments from people who don't seem to understand title connection, my humor, or sometimes the image itself. i think its negatively affecting my scores

can you tell what this picture is of? not many could...

whether or not you've read the book "a modest proposal" i am shocked that more people didn't at least study it in school..

does ANYBODY agree with me that this is ironic? too subtle, maybe..

i don't often go out looking for feedback, but i am starting to get very discouraged.. the photo i have in contest isn't going over very well and again, i'm just bewildered.

Hey Miah,

I dun think U should be discouraged in any way, I see merit in the all alone shot, though i am not well read and i haven read "a modest proposal" in school.
Do realise that DPC is a window to the world (In all sense I guess) and U are getting votes from people so diversed in backgrounds and cultures. So i think the last thing to get is to be discouraged. Photography is Fun and as long as the images makes sense to U and has meaning for u, and to it it means a story rather then simply an image, I think its good enough.

Photography like any other form of art is subjective, so please do not feel bad. Carry on taking photo. Be yourself. like U've said.

Colin.

they're all very appealing photos - i like the effect on the first one the most - keep up the work, don't give up! keep in mind, you should be doing this for you own enjoyment first and foremost.. it might be harder to enjoy with scores that you feel don't reflect the true quality, but i'm sure you'll get better with time. they're all technically very nice photos - subject matter can be very important as well too. if people knew what the first one was, they might like it more (i think i didn't realize what it was during the challenge, but now that you mentioned we should recognize it, i do). i have photographs that i've taken and consider just downright ugly, but have a friend or two looking at them say that it's one of their favorites (haha.. maybe just all my pictures are no good and that's a result of it.. i don't know). keep the passion alive!

Miah, don't be discouraged. Your photography's subtle and artistic. It has a maturity I wouldn't have expected from someone your age. You are experimental and creative and that is so important in learning and improving. If you don't do as well as you'd like to here, it isn't because you don't have wonderful shots. This is a place to learn but to do REALLY well you can't take a lot of chances with interpretation or with unusual photographic effects. That's ok, it has it's place, and it's fun, but don't let it get you down or stifle your creativity, keep up the good work.

thanks everyone.. yeah.. i guess its silly to be discouraged.. i'll just build up resentment towards the masses and show it in my work :)

I like your work, at least what I've seen so far. FWIW, I rated the shot of the car highly, I think it is quite good and a welcome deaprture from the norm (at least for DPC). I would guess that is exactly why it got scored low by many. Most shots that are very different around here, get scored low. Dunno why, they just do. Sometimes, I've gotten two comments where one individual will say they hate some component of my shot, and the other individual will say they love that part. It's all so subjective.
