Is it too late for anyone else to join in? I'm thinking of driving down for the weekend and then hitting Mount St. Helens on the way back.

OK, maybe a bribe, I can bring meat for the BBQ.

Okay well if you've got meat...jk

Of course you can join in. The more the merrier. Let me know if you're serious about meat though cause I'm keeping track of who's bringing what.

I've got half a bag of charcoal I can bring, and I can definitely "chip" in, as it were.

If you are coming all the way from BC I think you should bring some potato salad and just keep it in the back of the car...

I will bring something if I make it, but I'm always touch and go. The fam may have already planned a camping outing that weekend. I'd love to be there though...

Yeah, I was thinking about that. Nice and warm potato salad, maybe even pick up the ubiquitous flies on the way, yummmm! :)

OK - I'm in. I'll bring a couple of different kinds of sausage / hotdogs. In a cooler and all to keep them cool, not like those Canadian ladies who like warm potato salad.

What? You Americans don't eat warm potato salad dotted with full protein flies?

We find that even without the flies the Salmonella provides ample protein.

I found it does wonders for cleaning the system of toxins although in kind of a rude and dramatic way.

Okay got you down for it.

So far we've got utensils and such, charcoal, chips (2 people), dip, condiments hot dogs and buns.

Sounds like we've got the minimums so anything else is icing on the cake..... speaking of which if someone wanted to bring desert maybe? That would be great too.

Becky told me that she will make some cookies.

Are we going to be short of anything? If so, just let me know and I'll try to bring it.

Sheryll - when you get a final count of people how about posting it so I know how many dogs / sausage to bring. Looks like a dozen or so will be coming right now.

Great.

The only thing no one has said they'd bring is...
some sort of salad (green, potato, macaroni, whatever)
... if we want it.

I'll go through it again and post an update on what I see.

Things are looking more up for me making it. (Still, as always I'm a last minute thing.)

If I come, I'll likely bring pasta salad. I'll also likely make it to the Oneonta Gorge in the AM and may even make a trip up if someone wants to join me. I bet the water is lower now, but I'd wager it is still at least waist deep in parts.

I like the idea of Oneonta in the morning... just don't like the idea of wading. :)

What do you think will be the minimum extra requirements for getting to a good spot for photography?

Well, you can shoot from the bridge or the shore in the brief amount you can walk and stay dry, but I wouldn't call it a breathtaking view.

Gorge before the logjam

If you see the logjam in the distance that is your first hurdle. I found the water was the deepest in the whole trip right there, so if you are going to get onto the logjam, you might as well walk the whole rest of the way up. The water then shallows and deepens from shin deep to waist/chest (depending on how much is running I guess). I don't know what to expect since I've only forded it once and that was probably at its highest.

Another peek I found past the logjam

Hmmmmm... Looks to me like a strong young marathoner like you would have no trouble carrying a weak, featherweight, schriveled up old guy like me on your shoulders and keep him out of the water. :)
