It was nice to meet everybody today. I really enjoyed myself.

Now to check out all the photos...

Yup, it was nice to meet some of the famous and infamous characters of DPC.

I'm still on the road so it will be a few days before I can get any shots up. Moving on the Mt. St. Helens in the morning so I'm likely to have way too many to go through.

A few thumbs from today's Oregon GTG #5 at Lower and Upper Horsetail Falls in the Columbia Gorge. Great time with DPC folks from Oregon, Washington and Canada!

Have to say it was a major treat for me to finally meet in person Zoomdak(Thomas Robinson), Ursula, Agaricus, jbsmithana, Sheryll and ourwebstop for the first time. Super people. I've especially wanted to meet Zoomdak and Ursula for a very long time for reasons above and beyond photography. Ursula shocked me with how much she agrees with many of my radical DPC ideals. She must be more of an outsider than I thought. :)

Ourwebstop with his delightful partner/girlfriend and dog gps (pronounced 'jeeps') was an especially nice surprise. He is very knowledgible and talented as a photographer. He hiked/waded Oneonta Gorge alone and got some nice morning shots. I agree with him that his Oneota Gorge images were better than his Oneonta Waterfall images which was the main reason he waded in the first place. I was priviledged to see them 'chimped'. :) Sure hope he shows all of us the one Oneonta Gorge image with the great reflection he captured in this discussion. Its fantastic.

It was fun to again to see Charliebaker(David Robinson) and DrAchoo. They are quality individuals and great fun to be around. My only regret is that I accidentally deleted the pictures I took with DrAchoo's new 180mm Macro lens he graciously let me use to take sunrise images. His tripod is super nice to. That lens is the one he used for his recent red ribbon winning image in the Shapes challenge. fas-ligand and I proposed and look forward to a photo safari with DrAchoo over the 7 mile(11 kilometers) Silver Creek Falls trail down in the Willamette Valley. That has 10 waterfalls to photograph. Anyone else wanna do that?

Special thanks to Sheryll for organizing the event. She did a terrific job. The Columbia River Gorge has many great photo ops very close together but because of it's unique geology makes things close hard to get to sometimes. Road construction was not a help.

It is my belief that a landscape/nature photographer could spend a lifetime photographing the Columbia River Gorge, capturing an incredible range of Pacific Northwest imagery and make a career doing so.

Ray Atkinson is one of the greatest Pacific Northwest USA landscape photographers of all. He captured in medium and large format film only what we dream of in digital landscapes, including the Columbia River Gorge. His books are much better, they compare with National Geographic, but you can get a taste of the images he has captured here:

Hmph. I see where I rate in this. ;)

I might be interested in silver falls.

With the huge mass of egos talent available at this gathering I would expect to see more photos. :)

BTW, I'm sorry that me and Becky couldn't make it. Some friends made us an offer that we couldn't resist.

They're comin', they're coming'! I had to convert them all from raw. I was shooting to conserve space, so I didn't use RAW+JPEG.

As some may know I was involved in an unfortunate heat related incident in the desert that burned out all my brain cells so I cannot possibly be depended on for accurate and reliable recollection of all the facts. LOL!!!!

Jay, if you are interested in a 7 mile hike for a Silver Creek Falls photo safari you are more than welcome. I've never did that myself. Outside the Columbia River Gorge and with it's 10 major waterfalls, Silver Creeks Falls down in the Willamette Valley is perhaps the single best waterfall site in all the Pacific Northwest. It already was the site of one Oregon DPC GTG and good for another. :)

I've been group-camping there several times, but I've never actually been to the falls themselves. It's about time I did... besides, I was looking forward to meeting Jason, but he ditched too early. :p

You will like Jason and the falls hike will be fantastic... DrAchoo is an interesting guy and a lot of fun. I think fas-ligand, my son, likes him better for photography than me. LOL!!!

Hey all!!

Just got my body back home...Left Ainsworth a little past noon and made it back to Everett in short time, a bit after three...the traffic gods were shining upon me. Started to unpack my gear, and am uploading the pictures from the GTG (each card is going to take a half hour or longer :-P

It was a treat to meet everyone, and I had a total blast. That area is amazing.

We will have to do something like that again very soon. Nice to finally put faces to everyone....

I will put some pictures up after I have a look through them.

Linda and I had a great time at GTG5. It was great weather and great company. Mick -- we missed you, but I took a couple DIR shots for you -- you'll recognize them when you see them.

Here are a couple shots of the sunrise.

Here's a shot of the early-morning folks taking shots.

After sunrise, we made a stop to shoot the Vista House lit by the early light:

Then, off to Oneonta Gorge

Then we joined the group for BBQ lunch, and then headed with the group over to Horsetail Falls. Lower Horsetail was spectacularly lit at the top by the sun (although my shots didn't really capture that -- I hope others did. I should have tried a faster shutter to freeze the water better I think)

Then Linda and I headed up to Wahkeena Falls before heading home.

Thanks to all that participated -- it was a lot of fun to meet you all. A special thanks to Sheryl for organizing the event. There aren't many things that are more fun than spending a day with nothing to do but eat and shoot. Looking forward to next time.

Brian

A bigtime sorry to everybody I missed!!! I just got back from camping and it was good that I ditched out early because we still left later than "the plan".

It was great to meet the new people I did ( ursula, jbsmithana, sheryll, and very briefly ourwebstop). Getting up at 4:20 was well worth it although I was snoozy for the rest of the day.

I've still to download some shots, but feel the vista lookout may have resulted in something.

The most impressive part of the experience was Sheryll's willingness to "get the unusual shot". She was all over the water, rocks, and even in the jet spray of the waterfall (although I could have told her before that wasn't going to quite work out ;)). Big thumbs up on spunk Sheryll.

Anyway, again a big 'sorry' to the BBQ bunch. I would have loved to see everybody I've met already and meet the new ones.

Here's to GTG #6!

Modesty prevents me from suggesting what this looks like Mother Nature is doing. ;)

Here are some of mine...

Thanks again everyone!!! It was an honor meeting you and sharing the passion of photography together!!!

I must say this was awesome. Not only did we see nature at its finest and capture it but we met some great people had some great food and I don't know about the rest of you but I learned sooooooo much!!!! I was in the midst of greatness around the lot of you and hopefully some of it rubbed off on me. Thanks for letting me pick your brains.

Here are some of the shots I got of you. I have no idea what I might be using for the Jun free study so I'm just putting the people shots here for now. After I decide what I'm gonna use for the challenge this month then I'll put some of my shots in my portfolio.

Again.... Thanks a million. Ursula and Marrianna (I probably spelled it wrong)... it was very cool to camp next to you and Thanks for entertaining and teaching my son the art of photography.

All that is known for sure is that Jason's wife, Jenn, expressed great surprise there was anything that could possibly hold that hat up.
