Finally hit the 100 vote mark. Nothing too impressive but at least it's on a bit of an upswing. :)

Woo Hoo!
115 Votes and just broke 6.104
Up from 5.6 on the first day. I hope all those dumb anal "pedantic-challenged" voters are done now :)
I'm following Jutilda's advice and getting a healthy dose of blood flowing :)
Edit: Nope . .they're still out there, by the time I finished posting this, it had already dropped back down to 6.077. Tee hee.

If you fall into any of those then expect a few "not so nice" votes. If it helps, my image falls into one of those categories too :( |
If someone is following this rules, should not vote!... This is a Photo Contest, not a Title Contest.
I can't believe there are people thinking like this

I can't believe that people don't read the challenge description, which specifically mentions titles for this challenge.
From the challenge description: "Title your image with your chosen acronym, and let your image explain what the letters represent!"
Why is it so hard to follow instructions? The challenge is an assignment - fail to cover the rules of the assignment and you should see a reduction in not meeting the challenge. |

Why do people have to become so technical all the time....go with the Generally accepted definition and u have no trouble...
For example...you decide IHA is an acronym for I Hate Acronyms....
If you think that, You have to know that MOST people disagree with you. I am not saying you are wrong....I am just saying if your definition of a challenge does not fit the DPC status quo, chances are you will get dnmc comments.
K.I.S.S. :)) |

I'm glad... "DPC status quo" are only 2 persons in 20 comments on my entry ;) |

Well, sometimes technical is part of what makes a challenge a "challenge". There have been other challenges where the challenge description asks for specifics in titling challenge entries. It's not a new concept.
Bond, James Bond
The Year You Were Born
Beatles Song/Lyrics
Clichés and Sayings
The Username Challenge

You are reading too much into what I mean...People are arguing what Ice is for gawds sake...all I'm saying is that most of us generally know what a description is looking for, stretching it is all good..but do not expect the majority of the population to necessarily agree.. |

This thread is too funny. As Art would say, ROFLMAO. |

Ah, but it DOES say (underline added for emphasis) to "let your image explain what the letters represent".
Why would the image need to explain anything if it's already been explained in the title? Because the title is supposed to be just the acronym. :D |

Maybe because its a digital photography challenge? :>P
My small point (as if there aren't enough points in this thread already) is that adding something to the title shouldn't automatically lead to a lower vote. |

A descriptive title that explains the acronym potentially gives that challenge entry an advantage because they didn't have to let the image do the talking. The hard part (besides taking a good photo) of this challenge was getting an image that could explain/identify the acronym WITHOUT words. In otherwords, let the image do the talking. Not so easy. With a description in the title, one of the challenging elements of this challenge was bypassed and the easy way out was taken by the contributor.
This banter can probably go on forever. Perhaps it's best taken up after the challenge is over in another forum thread. (I can hear the collective HOORAY's out there now) :D

what gets me is there are so many out there willing to argue that they're voting their way despite the challenge description specifying that the image should explain the title, that the acronym need not be pronouncable, and that there is no hint that you can't make one up if you feel the image is strong enough to make it obvious...
number D is a valid argument to vote down - as that is the jist of this challenge.
point being - why have a description at all if the folks voting don't seem to take it into consideration. yes it is a 'photography' site, but if you gave someone a job and you were to ask them to photograph an apple and they submitted a photo of a lemon would it be accepted as being a photo of an apple anyway? probably not - because you asked for a photo of an apple. i doubt you would say - oh that's a great photo of a lemon even though i asked for an apple - you get a raise.

I totally agree. In fact, its the only thing, imho, that matters. If the image screams out the acronym it should get a high score, regardless of the type of acronym or the title. If it doesn't, it should get a low score.
But we're all free to vote however we choose. Its the collective consciousness, not the individual vote, that determines the outcome. |

yes i suppose all are free to vote however they feel. on the other hand it seems that meeting the challenge in most other cases reigns supreme, where here it's more of a i think an acronym is this and i'm sticking to it - it doesn't seem to matter whether or not the entry actually meets the spirit of the challenge topic description.
