Any thoughts ?

I quite like the lighting and skin tones.

Hey Gordon,

I too like the soft light and the skintone however I have a few points of critique from a personal taste standpoint.

I feel that it is still a bit underexposed -- I feel like there could be some more light there. The left side of the face in the image is maybe a stop darker than the right side and that is a little awkward IMHO. Adding to that idea, I feel that the eyes could stand out a bit more as well.

I also think that the composition coupled with the models pose is a little bit awkward. I like the square crop, but generally (to me at least) in square-cropped portraits I find that there has to be some sort of symmetry or geometry in the image. Your model is ever so slightly off to the right -- there is some space past her camera-left shoulder. This with her head tilted back towards the left makes it, again, a little awkward IMHO.

To be really picky, it seems there is some green color fringing in the shadows of the hair that I notice.

Still overall it's a good portrait, though to be honest I don't think it is anything special, but a nice job nonetheless. Just being frank here, don't take it personally! And hey, that's just my opinion :)

Sincerely,
Lee

I think the lighting and skin tones are fine, but the image just feels flat. It lacks contrast. I think the background choice just doesn't work.

Hi Gordon,
I like the lighting...The focus is just abit soft (hmmm...thats what everyone tells me.. :-o)While I like the lighting I think the softness looses some definition..

The only other thing is it is ashame of the crop on her left shoulder...I would either crop both or show both fully.

Lovely model and I like the pose..

Hi Gordon, one thing that is bugging me a little is the shadow of her nose on her right cheek (left side of image). Because her right cheek is already in shadow, it will have less definition anyway (it won't show the "roundness" which is obvious on her left check). But the nose shadow is confusing what roundness you can see.

I'd suggest moving the light up higher (45 degrees up). That will cast the nose shadow down below the cheek and allow the cheek to look a little more natural.

I'd also prefer that the background either be blown out (throw another light behind her and set it 2 stops higher), or that you move it away from her and/or use a darker background, or color it. Anything but "muddy white" like it is now.

That's my biggest flaw with it. But, I agree with most that has been posted so far.

Hi Gordon

The lightning is good but like Tranquil said, the left side of her face is a little too dark. Using a reflector or a fill light could solve the problem. Overall the picture could be a little more contrasted it's a little too flat to my eye. You could use more lights too (one to bright up the background, another one for the hair light)

Cropping could be a little bit better (subject should be centered in the picture).

Anyway, overall it's a nice portrait I like a lot the softness effect created by the light. Keep up the good work!

Yes, it looks like he got us on that one. Damn good render though.

Not a joke as such. Curious how many people wouldn't even notice. Seems like just about anyone who didn't know it was completely computer rendered. Given the detail of the comments, I'm assuming it was looked at pretty carefully. It is surprisingly good, even for CG work.

Yea, yea, yea

I was going to say that there is something wrong with the eyes (seem like colour balance on a separate level and then badly merged)
Found strange that you post a portrait like this

On her left side it seems as if she is badly selected from the background

Dang, Gordon. I was keeping my mouth shut because I know you take better photos than that. :-) But that is some nice cgi, wow! Thanks for sharing.
