From most of the posts I've seen, people are Photoshop fans. Does anyone use Paintshop Pro? I've been using it forever, just because there was a freeware ver. long long ago and I just got used to where everything was. Any real disadvantages to this, or should I start to get used to Photoshop and put down some cash for it?

Paint Shop Pro should be fine for the challenges on this site. I've been using it for 8 months now and I still am learning things everyday. Mose Photoshop tutorials apply to PSP but some of the steps may be different. The problem is figuring out how to duplicate those steps.

I use PSP and not even the newest version of it. I don't like change and I am comfortable with PSP and it suits my needs. Hey, I've got 3 ribbons with it so it can't be all that bad!

I use PSP Xl. I've only had it for a month or so. I like it, but then again I've never used anything else. I never really did any PP until I found this site and joined. I'm still learning.

I use paint shop pro XI and really like it.
Before I got my DSLR I had psp8.

I tried the free download of Photoshop and it run to slow on my computers.
My laptop is my fastest computer and I use it for most everything. It's only a 1.6mhz/1gig ram. PSP XI runs great on it. I would have loved to play with photoshop more, but it was way to slow on my laptop.

Hey, I have both PSP X and photoshop cs2 on various computers and I would say that PSP is almost as good as photoshop for a fraction of the price. The colour management is less sophisticated, but unless you're doing professional printing and design that shouldn't matter, and the image processing engine is a little slower.

I prefer the control layout of PSP but that's just because I learnt it first.

In the end it will do anything a serious hobbyist could want, and you'd be better off spending the money you save on other aspects of your photography.

thanks for the insight. I will be sticking with PSP for now. Now it's time to fine tune the skills...
