Here is a 4x5" 600dpi gray card that you can print yourself and use it for metering. Print it on the heaviest card stock (matte finish) that you can use.

Thanks John, I'll give it a try. Is this supposed to be 18% gray? And won't it depend on the printer?

It's close enough to the color and my camera could not tell the difference between this and a real gray card under several different lighting conditions.

Grey cards are nice. But if you should find yourself needing something a little more durable, check out these cards .//www.rmimaging.com.
I got one of the small ones the other day and it's very lightweight, exceedingly tough, but still pliable. Quite nice. |

Can I ask my stupid question for today?
Keep in mind I'm a total novice to 99% of this photography stuff and I have simple point and shoots so why would I need, want or use a gray card?
