I have had digital cameras for 3 years and have read up on tecnique, composition and lighting.
Now it´s time to invest in a DSLR and I will be buying the EOS digital rebel in a month or two.
When reading Setzlers thread on book exchange it lead my to Amazon and photography book browsing.
My cart now features Understanding Exposure and The A-Z of Creative Photography.
My question to you fellow dpcers is what other books do you recomend for mastering the SLR photograpy techniques?

Understanding Exposure is the best I have seen for learning how to control your camera. Everything else is up to you after that :)

Before you even think about post-processing, get 'An Ansel Adams Guide - Basic Techniques of Photography'. It's written by John Schaefer. It's not written from a digital perspective, but there is a great deal of very useful fundamental information in there, which these days of 'post-processing' people don't seem to be aware of.
One important piece of advice, which I very much happen to agree with, is to pick a subject and stick to it. Only in that way will the quality of your work improve. Unfortunately this goes against the spirit of challenges...
Ron.

When you are talking about learning the SLR, the "Understanding Exposure" book will be your best bet. It discusses metering, aperture, and shutter control. Those are the primary elements of exposure and they are under your complete control (if you want them to be) with the SLR cameras. I can't think of any other books that would be worthwhile for learning how to use the camera effectively.

I found John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide even more useful than Understanding Exposure for explaining in terms that I could understand how to meter and evaluate a scene. |
