Hey all,
I was working on editing some shots from a shoot I did last Wednesday of a lovely 19-year-old model named Jennifer. I was looking to get a somewhat "artistic" look, so I made this image:

I emailed it to the model, but I haven't heard back yet. What do you all think? Shooting stock the way I do, I don't get too much into the more far-out stuff in Photoshop the way some of you do, but I want to do more like this for my own enjoyment. Please feel free to comment on this one, and any others in the series that you like (more are on the way). Thanks!

Oh man, that the title of the thread was supposed to be "artistic OR lousy". How do you edit a title?

need to bring up the saturation on the eyes. If you decide to go this route maybe take the color out of the lips too.

tone down the red in the eyes & bring up the irises

I'm not a fan of it. I don't mean that badly, but saying it just since you asked. maybe with no color and high contrast.

the whites of the eyes need to have the red taken out.

the mole is so prominent it forces my eye to it over and over.

I too feel the iris color needs to be brought out more

I'm not a huge fan of it as well. It just doesn't draw me into the photo. I also think that the crop calls attention to the assymetry in the facial features. Her face appears a little too round or too wide for modeling. It probably shows a little more detail than a model would like to see...the whites of her eyes have a reddish tint and a little stubby right around the mole. I would have to agree that the eye is drawn there, but I think a more rectangular crop to the face might help elongate her face and draw some attention away from the mole. I'm not one to criticize by no means...just pointing out what I see when I look at the picture.

Alright, a few adjustments from what was said so far. How's this:

can you lighten her eyes (whites)as well ? & take the sat out of the pupil you want to draw the person into the eyes so make them stand out ..
(possibly run a slight Gaussian blur over everything but eyes & lips ..)

I don't think it's particularly flattering...I like xXxscarletxXx aproach to make it more artistic, but I just think it doesn't really pick up on the nice features of her face due to lighting etc...the shadows seem to exaggerate features like nositril and nose and eye sockets

I prefer the high contrast approach of jaded_youth and scarlet. Otherwise she looks like she has grey skin.

A little on the extreme artistic side. I think the mix of grey skin and unflattering crop didnt much help the original. In such a close-up shot the eyes need to stand out more and they dont seem to, probably based on the brown color and lighting.

Thanks for your thoughts and ideas everybody. Some of you had some really good takes on how to try a shot like this, and thanks for pointing out areas for improvement on mine (like rotating it to make the eyes level). Any other ideas are welcome, but thanks again for what was posted so far.

You could try some burning in the lower corners under her cheekbones tapering towards the middle if that makes sense. The square crop (which I like) makes her appear kind of wide in the lower cheek area, and a little more shadow under the cheekbones would be flattering for her.
