I'm glad you didn't pull it. There's something very intriguing about that shot, it's so unreal, and yet there's that very real skirt with the paisley pattern. It's good. |
That photo only scored a 6.2, which begs the question why? With all those favs one would think it would get a much higher score. It's not like it was a shoehorn. Quite the opposite. If I looked up "high contrast" in the dictionary I would expect to see that photo! So what gives? I've seen this with other photos that turned out to be more popular than even the ribbon winners yet scored so much lower. Just doesn't make sense sometimes.

IMO the main reason this particular image didn't score higher is the processing. It looks like a pencil drawing, or maybe a charcoal, and I think there are quite a few voters who consider making images such as these a "no-no". At least that's my take on it.

Here's mine:
I didn't think that much of it when I entered it, but now has 32 favorites. What are people thinking? :/ |
Well, I was thinking "that's friggin' hilarious!" when I added it a while ago. ;) |
Seriously. My husband and I both were in hysterics when I came on that one in the voting. Brilliant. |

I didn't shoot it for the challenge; I was just messing around, and then I found a username to match it (it was the Username challenge) and stuck it in at the last minute. I meant to pull it, because I thought it was just far, far too gray and poorly composed. I had failed to comprehend the power of blurry water at DPC, I guess. (I tried to capitalize on it later, and failed, with a picture that I thought -- and think -- was far and away better than this one. You never can tell with folks.)

Really quite surprised about the popularity of this. Nine favourites! Most favourites and most views of all pics in my portfolio outside of challenges. I was surprised because it was a kind of a quick shot, and it's cropped pretty well, resulting in not-so-great softness.

Considering the score, I'm surprised by the amount of fav's. I actually was hoping for a better score but got DNMC trashed, I think it only pulled off a 6 because it's other merits.

This one was pure happenstance and still remains high on the surprise list, but not so much after it was finished, but just that I caught such a perfect up down up down pattern of the birds. This is one of my all time favs, and is so for 14 others. I think making the sky green put it in another league. I'm glad I did.
