After making a bit too much fan fare of being in the advertising business and commenting on every entry whether you wanted or not, I feel its only fair to give my highest scorers.
Dex
Here are my tens in the comp. Different from the voters But I stand firm.....
It still sells....
Funny that the ribbon winners got an 8, 8 and 7 from me respectively. I liked these because I felt with text, these showed the most potential. I also took into cosiderations the possibilities without the constraints of basic editing. Thanks again for your toleration..

These are all good shots especially this and are among my higher rated images. They are just a bit boring and don't stand out imagining they were printed in a magazine or on a billboard.
From a CDs point of view this clearly is the winner. Try take a look at german "Astra Pilsener" or some british beer ads - this is exactly what sells over here.

I agree my U.S. Perspective limits me. Advertising in other countries and my ignorance really curtails some of my creative judgment. I don't disagree with the voters and I heartily congratulate the winners. I guess I was looking for something original or an image that really captured my attention and could be worked into a serviceable ad. The unfortunate part is that people like me cut the checks, so they're my decisions that I make and have to answer for.

Dex - What about this one? Too cliche, too busy? Had it as one of my top picks as a classic looking advertisement photo...

My guess is that he would say it's a classic comp and still life. Perfect for and ad. This photo fits really well with this product that is nicely presented. Nice background color and lighting. |

Ok. You got me. Yes, I read his comments (since he commented on them all), but thought he might share why it wasn't a ten for him. :-) |

My words exactly ;). But the reason I didn't give it ten is I would've asked for a little less texture in the background (shallower DOF could've achieved this) and the reflection on right side of the bottle that could've been diffused or polarized. A gleaming sparkle would've been good but would've been more difficult to get through the camera or woul've been an added element. Don't get me wrong, I like the lighting and the background just a little less of it. The strongest parts here are the comp, the sharpness, and the presentation (another word for where the product is placed and the "obviousness" of what's being sold.) All this said I gave it an 8.

By request. I gave this an eight. I liked this very much but the two things that kept it from scoring a perfect 10 (In My opinion only) is the lack of sharpness of the lime at the top of the bottle and the background that seems to be an "off white" . Still a great ad and deserving of its high finish! Congrats! I could use this and make a very nice ad.

I know I probably should have gone with a tighter crop, but what do ya think Dex? Under-rated or no?

I gave it a six. so...yes. Besides the crop,a shallower DOF would've implied the dirt without....well the dirt. The strong comp and the model got you high marks from me

Not a bad photo Leroy, but from this fella's perspective it was a bit of a reach to equate the image with a beer commercial.
A mud splattered truck with a girl in the back is more in keeping with "Muddin" where I am, and the beer... it's just one of those things that is also part of the scene... Do I equate the two with a beer ad??? NOPE
Too much focus on the truck and the young lady... and not enough on the beer.
Gave it a 6.
