Great tips, thanks for taking the time to share...

Another trick I sometimes use is to apply USM pretty harshly (something like 300,6,0) on just the irises (sp?), and then blend on overlay or screen and lower opacity... You can see the results in this shot... It sort of makes the eyes glow

Love some of the other tips I'm seeing here. Anyone have anymore to add?

Hi Cindi,

In addition to using a method similar to what you described on your image, I often also use the dodge brush at 4% opacity to brighten the eye whites a bit. Usually this is my first step, before burning 'round the iris.

I actually prefer the eyes in the original photo you posted. In my opinion after cloning out the catchlight they look quite fake to me. Probably just a personal preference.

Thanks :-)

I'd like to add a technique that I learned not too long ago about eye lashes.

It's easy to give longer lashes and fill in gaps with the Smudge tool.

Simply use a small hard brush (1 to 2 pixels) in Darken mode. Start from an existing lash or the end of the eye lid and draw a lash. Since it is in darken mode, the smudge tool will only affect the lash and not smudge the skin around it. Works best with a brush at about 75-80% opacity.

Wonder how well that works on people with different colored eyes...

Hmmmm. Something to try...

Thanks for the tips Cindi! I actually do something very similar to several of your steps, but burning the outline of the iris itself was something I hadn't tried before. I will definitely use it when I need to pimp a ride! ;-)
