I welcome any critiques, suggestions, helpful hints, etc. It's taken me FAR too long to get this thing up and running, but I think it looks pretty good overall. I will add more galleries and organize their content a little better.

Simple, clean and quick-loading.
Site navigation is easy enough.
Mouseover/Alt text on home page over the galleries would be a plus. (Firefox)
The site map page could use a little help. The redundant "These are some of S J Carter's favorite xxxxx images. His portfolio grows daily, so please check back frequently to see his most recent work." beside each thumbnail is too repiticious in my opinon
Maybe a couple lines above them all to say
"These are some of S J Carter's favorite images.
These galleries grows daily, so please check back
frequently to see his most recent work"
then keep it simple below next to thumbs like:
[thumb] Bugs & Flowers - Nature at it's finest. (keep them simple?)

I think it looks great - nice and easy to navigate, pictures look great against the black. Layout is good and font is easy to read. Great job and good luck with it |

Really looks great except when you go to links and then DPChallenge, it links to //allwebco-templates.com/ |

Yeah, I know about the "Diet Plans" thing - had to include it in order to use the counter. Maybe one of you have a recommendation for a free counter without a sponsor? :-)
I'll look into the broken link too. Thanks!! |

There's lots out there. Your isp/host might even have one you can use.
just google "counter + free"

.
One suggestion...how about displaying a "tooltip" when hovering over the gallery thumbnail on the main page. I had no idea what each gallery was. IMO, this would be better than having to click on the link to take me to the gallery index page.
BTW, why can't we "right-click"? I was hoping to find some EXIF info to learn with. :-(

Thanks for the good suggestions! I'll try to find a new counter tomorrow. In answer to your question about the right click option, it is disabled to deter (I know there's no way to prevent) image theft. :-) |

nice site ... very clean design.
for the sake of being critical (in the aim of being constructive), i don't like photography sites where you have to scroll down to view the entire picture ... it's a pet peeve.
i know it can be difficult with vertical shots.
i'm looking at your hummingbird pics (which are great) but i have to scroll down to enjoy the full picture. i've never liked doing that with websites.
www.super-dave.com
i didn't write the code for my page, but i chose my gallery template based on that idea, that the viewer doesn't have to scroll to look at pictures.
... my two cents. and as i said, it's a really nice gallery! :)

I like your site, it is easy to use and not overly gimmicky.
If I had to nit-pick, I'd look at two things.
The first is to get a contact form on there to fill in - don't make people leave your site to get in touch with you.
The second is the background, it has a slight light gradient at the bottom that looks a bit odd on my screen. Pure black throughout might be better. |

How about a link or just simply display certain (not all) EXIF info? I learn a lot from online galleries and portfolios where this metadata is available. This is just a suggestion--keep up the good work!

TinyCounter has 'em. That what I use on my online gallery.
It's free, and there were plenty of styles from which I could choose, but nothing the exactly matched my site's style/format.

Ahh yes. Forgot to mention that.
I dispise right-click disabling. A web page should *not* affect the behaviour of the user agent. That includes automatically opening new windows, or altering how the buttons behave. If you really wish to deter people from downloading your images (and I don't for a minute believe that anti-right-click scripts do this) then I'd suggest either a copyright message on the image, or -if you're really stuck on scripts - a right-click script that only affects "save image as".
As a point of interest, people are now being sued for inaccessible business websites under the various disability access acts and such. Right-click context menus can be used for a lot of other things than just saving images, including accessibility options. |
