I can't even quote the multiple posts on that topic here, for fear of offending normal, rational people.
So, Leroy, consider this is a formal request: Won't you please stop polluting DPC with your sexual deviance and related fantasies. |
Normal rational people enjoy thier sexuality. It's those that try to repress anything sexual that need help! End of that topic! |
No its not the end of that topic... Normal people endulge their sexual fantasies in healthy ways.. not spewing it all over a photography website forum |

Ok... so when you make your two lists, list one of the morally superior people and list two of the people who should be rounded up,
PUT ME IN LIST TWO
because I never ever ever want to be in list one.

How many of those total of 3 "play" threads are on the front page at this very moment?

But before we continue talk about censoring people on the forums, could we perhaps consider what the original poster *suggested*?
What I'm saying is, he seems to be asking (and rather politely) for a favor from fellow DPCers. He's stating a concern and asking if you would be kind enough to consider his feelings and the feelings of others....and I don't see the harm in that...I just hate to see things degenerate so rapidly into SC action, new side-sites, banning of topics in the forums, etc. when perhaps a little bit of self control or concern for others would do the trick! :-) |
Emphasis added.
To recap: a request has been made for some restraint from one user base to another user base. The response, so far, has been "Pfft! Censorship!"
It's not censorship, it's asking for a shred of common decency. |

sorry erick i a 15 year old intimidates you :/ but you must understand its not just you, i was just using your post as an example, i can make another example if you would like. Lets not attack eachother, lets just try and figure out whats good for dpc on a whole, and in my oppinion its stopping posts such as that one |

Well...If you use me as an example.
I rarely post in Non-Photo oriented discussions. I just have too many other distractions to add even more. If the off topic stuff doesn't bother me as a DPC'er who mainly reads photo-discussions only...I just have a hard time thinking it would bother others either.
I sometimes think people read these other threads KNOWING that the thread or the people in that thread are going to tick em off and they do it anyway. Then get indignent.
For instance..I know any thread legalbeagle posts in will drag me in for days and I avoid them... (sorry legal..if you read this...I was going for a cheap laugh) :-)
I hope people won't start attacking other people just because your priorities at this point in your life are not the same as theirs. We need all the flavors here at DP Challenge. |

Quite so...but I think it's apparent that feelings have been hurt on both sides, and that indecent/hurtful words have been spoken by a number of people.
I just hate to see this animosity on this site. I'm always telling my husband how great it is and how wonderful the people are! And it's true!!
So perhaps we can all take a moment to calm down, put some of these nasty words and thoughts behind us and agree to be a little nicer to each other? |

I don't care what you call them, they've been called many things throughout history, rats, reds, pornographers, witches, and because of my knowledge of history I wish to stand with them, not with you.

Bear has offered a logical and workable solution, the only one offered that is both. Why not now give SC time to do their job and everyone else just chill for a while? |

Maybe a little. :)
Let's look at it from another way: free speech is a good thing, I think most people would agree. Here in America, you still can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded movie theater though, now can you? That's because while free speech should be protected, there are (and IMHO should be) limits on what that speech is to protect the general public.
It's late, and I'm tired, so maybe that's a bad analogy. The point is, I personally am not saying "Oh, let's take away all banter and social aspects of this site," I'm just agreeing with the OP that lately the speech around here has been a little too free.
What disturbs me is the reply from the hi-jack contingent. So far, I've heard nothing but "Just ignore it," which seems a little too cavalier a response for what is a legitimate discussion about how the members of DPC want their community to be perceived.
So yeah, if certain users aren't willing to knock it off so others can have fun, too, well, I do suggest they take it elsewhere. |

No, I understood that well enough. But, you see... the thing about it is that Dan also has a PM link in his BIO -- but that wasn't used, was it.
No, instead he was singled out, forced to defend himself until he said something that could be construed to push the envelope a bit too far. At that point a request was made -- not for the SC remove specific references -- but for an all out lock of the whole offending thread.
I left the side-lines of their exchange because I felt that sort of behavior (the baiting) inappropriate and needed attention called to it.
Thanks for your concern and the reference to the rules.
David

I'm aware of this thread only because a number of DPCers with whom I chat (yes, when I want to have discussion interesting to only a select few and completely unrelated to photography, I use a chatroom or instant messenger). I've intentionally been away from DPC for about a week and plan (with the exception of these instances in which I can't contain myself) to stay that way. This isn't a "boohoo, look at me quit and feel sorry for me" post...it's just to say add me to the list of squeaky wheels.
I've been at DPC for a long time. I've seen it through many stages. I've always been a proponent of off-topic conversation, although not being privvy to the SC threads, you might not see that. But for me, recently, DPC has gotten so ridiculous that it's not even worth my time anymore. It's not that there are worthwhile yet off-topic threads. It's that people can't seem to help themselves from posting just for the sake of posting. It's that people can't seem to find the line and stay on the proper side of it. I just don't understand it. Threads like "pillow fight" and "off topic" aren't promoting social activity - a good number of the posts in those threads don't even contain real words. I don't understand the need to have these sorts of conversations "immortalized" on a photography site and why they can't take place in private, the way many of us conduct our nonsensical and competely-uninteresting-to the-general-public conversations.
Likewise, I'm absolutely not a prude. But honestly, I can only stomach so much discussion about whips and leather and who blatently wishes they were banging whom. Why does this have to be so prevalent in the forums? And not just in their own threads (of which there are many), but in any thread that happens to pop to the top when a certain group of people are online. I just see absolutely no reason why this needs to be conducted in public.
I am all for informative, interesting, off-topic threads. But these, I just don't understand.
And I completely understand that my post and my opinion don't change a single thing. I've mentioned before, as politely as my crusty self can muster, that this sort of degeneration has been bothering me, only to be mocked. I'm aware that our opinions mean little and that unless the SC essentially comes in with brute force, our requests won't be honored. But I know that the ones who have spoken up here aren't nearly the number who have been bothered by this so I just wanted to add another name to the list of those who have. Good luck to everyone in finding a suitable balance. |

Maybe I'm missing something but what "photography" threads are being hijacked? In addition to the ignore option you also have the option to read the thread titles. So far I've pretty much figured out which are the photography threads and which are the silly threads by just reading the title. Not difficult.
The real issue here is there aren't enough people creating photography threads OR responding to them. Maybe that's where the effort should be focused at instead of just complaining.
