What ursula said.

From the SC pov, it's the threadjacking/rabbit chasing that seems to be getting out of hand.

As far as the ignore feature, it was implemented so that if a thread came up that you didn't want to follow, you could ignore it.

With all due respect, you might as well just say Leroy and Judi. Why do this in the forum. Please do as you ask and contact in private.

In fact your post itself contained a word that most people consider vulgar when referring to your canoe mates. However, we are a community, and if you really want to change your community, don't go "tell teacher" or the SC. Get a group of people to scour the forums and when you see something offensive simply call it out on the forum it was posted. If every time a sexual joke is made, it is quickly followed up by an admonishment people will stop, and you will have a squeaky clean site where people aren't saying what they want to once again (if it was ever any different really)

Um, the title of the thread is "Desperate Outcry." Should the original post be quoted in every thread where the topic is of concern?

And, IMO, those few random users have been attempting to contain their escapades into a few random threads, rather than hi-jack other threads.

You're right. I apologize. I was out of place mentioning specifics. SC is working on how to deal with the situation. I jumped the gun.

I am offended by violence - will you now ban every thread that mentions violence?

I also don't like many of the political threads. Time to ban them, too.

Perhaps Nikon owners are offended by the Canon threads?

If SC thinks our minds are too far in the gutter, then make us assign some sort of sexual warning tag to the thread, so that everybody who is too squeaky clean for our antics has an easy way of avoiding us (via their preferences).

I'm glad. Hope it holds.

On the contrary, that is what that feature is for.

True...however....when someone has so many of the threads on ignore it doesn't make for a very fun site. I've seen more tits and ass on here lately than I care to. Am I prude? Not even....it's when the "same" thing is said or same shown over and over and over......gets real old....real quick.

I have to say....kinda nice to see a 15 year old say how he feels...especially in a noncombative way.

Anyhow .... just my opinion :)

Once a conversation degrades to the point that it's 2 or 3 folks passing innuendos/flirtations/whatever back and forth, just take it to email. Or PMs. Or set up a webcam and get it out of your system.

It is often not Leroy or Judi that bring them up in threads, but others trying to get in on or revive a 'private' forum joke.

I do hope I am mistaken with my interpretation of this comment, as it would seem that the players you mentioned might be in for a surprise.

No, you misunderstand. I was trying to say that SC is aware of the situation and all that.

I'm sorry, I'm not that good with language. I have been frustrated with the forums lately, not as SC, but as a participant here. I think people should have the freedom to express themselves in a polite manner, but IMO there have been just way too many hijacks and whatevers lately. I would prefer that this were not happening, and that threads stuck better to topic. I hope someone else can say this better than I.

It's not about banning threads, it's about keeping threads on track and not watching them denigrate into jokes not everybody feels like reading hoping that maybe the thread will getback on topic.

There have been numerous threads that start out about all sorts of things: questions about the challenge topic, questions about editing, questions about shoots and poses, questions about opinons on a new editing technique or whatever. Several of them end up off topic, and nobody knows if/when they will get back on topic. Is one to ignore the thread because they don't feel like reading the jokes, or are they to slog through the various posts?

I am making full use of the ignore button in these forums, and keep the rant forums on because I (usually) like seeing the political discussions (debates) that come up. What am I suppose to do if a therad goes off track? I often end up not ignoring them hoping someone will post something interesting that was pertinant to the original post. Sometimes it happens, sometimes not.

Is it too much to ask to think for twenty seconds before you make a post that is off topic of the thread if it the post is necessary (as the OP asked)?

There is a difference between scratching your a$$ and tearing it all to hell.

As one who has been majorly complaining and reporting posts... I also am tired of the thread hijackers and the other things mentioned in Dan's original post.. As much as you all are screaming if you dont like us ignore the thread... thats not always appropriate..I for one read almost every thread... and I get fed up whne one gets hijacked or goes off on a seperate tangent ... usually sexually innuendo filled...

We recently had half a thread deleted as it was off on a tangent from the thread hijackers

I agree with the personal opinion stated in this thread that that kind of stuff belongs in another site.. or out in messenger land..

You can complain or be upset all you want, but to me it seems the biggest complainers in this thread objecting to the original posting should take a look at how their behavior looks to everyone, and base it on how it looks to EVERYONE.

and when a 15 yr old has to tell an adult that their behavior isnt appropriate... well... shame on you

Pray tell how this gratuitous comment really aids in sorting out the problem at hand. It neither addresses the issue nor truly responds to the comment made.

I like free speech for the DPC forums, but I also see the difficulty that the internet has with morality. On one hand you let people express themselves, and on the other hand in the virtual world people express themselves in ways they probably would not in person(have you been on myspace lately?).

Very big dilema. Maybe we should have a forum ratings system. Then if a registered user is under 18 they get the PG version of the site. If they are over 18 they get the full version of the site. Then the over 18 crowd could cuss and post pictures of thier nipples ect... While the PG crowd could talk about ways they cheat and get into the over 18 crowd side.

That was VERY on-topic banter. The thread was about alternative to DPC and the posts were about a planned "nude" alternative to this site. IMO, it was complete BS that those posts were deleted. I was pissed, but did I go whining?

seriously though, why not make a private conversation about the "nude alternative" instead of posting it and interupting an already made thread?

Do send me a PM... I for one would love to know to whom you are directing these remarks... and thank you ever so much for allowing me to complain and be upset... nice to know that I have your permission.

Excuses for poor behavior and whining when your behavior is foudn lacking in the forums .. is beyond my comprehension...

The 15 yr old called you out... now you're whining... and whinign that your posts got deleted... as well they should have..
