Wow! This has to be my favorite too. It's really an incredible shot.

Yes, "clouds" might be a little bit narrow, and "skies" might be definitively better.

Talking about skies, this is a picture taken from my bedroom's window. The exposure time is equal to 30s, and the aperture equal to 2.8. The clouds appear blurry because of fast wind that night. The white light come from the moon, and the yellow one from a streetlight. I kind of like the strange ambiance, and the strange lightening.
I'm really new to photography, and I've never submitted a picture, so I'm open to any of your comment that would help me.

Thanks!

...

I've just seen the result of my last post... Sorry, I don't know how to insert thumbnails.
The following is a link to the picture: //kristinandjeanseb.free.fr/DSC01006.JPG

Okay, the bedroom window shot is gorgeous. If you're new to photography you should do very well - but the Jon Lucas' storm clouds are totally amazing. I consider the skies to be sort of God's doodle pad - infinitely variable and often breathtaking.

Skyskapes is a whole area of photography, and everyone has a sky. The description might say something about the sky covering atleast 50% of the shot so that there is room for including other things. That way even the people with a boring sky all week could still have a chance to make a nice shot. Two hundred pictures of just clouds could get rather boring.

Sure, the comparison is not even possible between the bedroom picture and the stormy clouds!

The only down side there would be the inevitable folks with slide rulers and tape measures saying that if it isn't between 50 and 52 % sky, it doesn't meet the challenge :) Yes, I know you said "at least"... But I'll lay even money that someone posts the definition of the word Least and At and argues that since it never said we could have more, they will vote 1s :)

I'd also quite like to see this as a challenge that tried rules that allowed open editing, but with the constraint that the photograph should still look like a photograph and not a digital composite.

Clouds are a great opportunity for dodging and burning and more selective tonal enhancements - the lenswork folio linked earlier in this thread is a great example of what can be brought out of a cloudscape with a bit of additional work.

A friend of my wife's e-mailed this to her today... I don't know who the photographer was, but this is a very cool shot of Hurricane Isabel (allegedly):

Alansfreed - that is incredible! What a view. Not one I'd be too happy to see on a casual afternoon out in the dinghy! ;/

Really nice! I love the one taken on the ocean, with little clouds. Are you a pilot or something to have so many pictures taken from the sky?

Close! :) Actually I work for a database software company ( MySQL AB, //www.mysql.com/ ), coincidentally the same database software being used to run this website. :) I travel worldwide to visit our customers and also teach MySQL training. I love the view of the sky *from* the sky!

Currently I'm in Uppsala Sweden (I live in Ohio, USA) ...
