Have you ever put on your Investigative Thinking Cap while voting on challenges?

Every once in a while I'll see a shot that has a few subtle hints in it concerning where it was shot, but it's not obvious. For whatever bizarre reason, I find it fun to head off to Google to see if I can pin 'em down & learn more.

As a perfect example, the Nostalgia challenge had this shot by stdavidson:

//www.dpchallenge.com/image.php?IMAGE_ID=37183

With the newspaper clipping featured in the photo, I went to Google and tracked down the Sublimity Harvest Festival, which even has its own web site!

Of course, with this knowledge I can't resist leaving little notes like the one I left on this shot: "An Oregon Classic! :)"

I'll admit that this isn't exactly the most helpful comment regarding the photo, but it did prompt the photographer to PM me to see how I knew about this event. He was quite amused when I told him I just dug the information up.

Does anyone else have this twisted hobby, or should I just seek therapy? I do suspect that some similar thinking has resulted in some of the DQs along the way...

Uh oh... looks like I'm the only one with this form of dementia!

We were all hoping you'd gone for the therapy option ; )

Nice bit of detective work.

Now I'm wondering if you did any research on my Stone in Tree picture from the desolation challenge...

I would LOVE to know who was buried under the tree!

I will sometimes comment about places/structures I recognize, or guess/ask if I'm not sure. Seems to me I've maybe even done this on a couple of your's!

The former Nostalgia winner was DQ'd because someone recognized the venue and knew it couldn't have been taken during the allowable dates. I remember there were some disputes of moon phases at one time too.

you did that to me on my sports challenge entry too! Your comment showed you knew more about the subject than I did...

Yeah, the sports one was definitely a fun one for my twisted brain! I felt compelled to go look up the outcome of some of the games that featured somewhat identifiable teams. Ok, I do need a hobby. I'll try to work it in between therapy sessions... :)

Hey, I say stick with this hobby. I don't want to do it but it sure sounds fun and it gives you some background to share with other DPCers. Sounds like it motivates you to get involved in a unique way. Good work.

This could make a neat challenge topic..... photogrpah something with just a hint of the location.... it would help those who sit and hit the refresh button 7 million times a day....
