I didn't enter color on color. Here's the shot I thought about submitting.

Today I was browsing macrothing's portfolio. and noticed an outtake of a similar concept that they entered. It did pretty well (by my standards), and I now wonder if it was a mistake to hold out on that challenge?

Here are macrothing's shots (which I very much like)

Color on Color submission Outtake

Please help me develop better judgement by giving feedback on how my shot might have been received.

Thanks!

I think yours would have suffered from having too many colors and the most widely held interpretation of the challenge was one color on the same color - like macrothing's photo.

Thanks karmabreeze. That has been the concensus of others who have seen it, and is the main reason I didn't enter it:)

i agree w/ the comment on the colors. even outside of the challenge, i feel like there are just too many colors in this one... the red outline of the leaf actually makes it looked added in and i'd probably have hit the "request validation" button, truthfully..

i also feel that that adding sharpness to the center leaf would help it stand out...

the beauty of macrothing's shot is it's simplicity and detail...

ETA: oh... and i'm a fan of the idea... obviously...

Macrothing's picture has one color. No one looking at the picture would question if it met the challenge. It also has great lighting. The backlight defines all the little hairs around the leaf and adds interest while not detracting from the theme. It also has a nice composition that everyone can relate to. Our favorite rot home position.
The picture he chose also has one other thing that the out take doesn't have. The stem is visible. It grounds the picture. It comforts the viewer and lets them know this isn't a leaf floating in space. It's a live leaf connected to (apparently) the ground.

It's a leaf though! Leaves do great in challenges for no apparent reason to me. I've seen some really crappy pictures of leaves make it into the top 50 or even the top 20.

LOL. Point taken. Would I be correct in assuming that you would support adding "leaves" to #27?

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I knew macrothing's shot was much better. My curiosity has been satisfied. I made the right choice in not submitting (for once);)
