I realy enjoyed putting this photo together as I thought it would throw a completely different angle on the Beaches Challenge and allow me to become creative and try to capture some of the scenes from the epic motion picture Saving Private Ryan.

I was relly pleased with my own efforts although the score wasnt great, it got me thinking of new ideas.

However I am now standing at the crossroads as I suppose so many before me have stood, wandering is it worth the Hastle.
I know all about the rough with the smooth, and although there are more good Guys than Bad Guys, its always that One Bad one that pee's you off

Great job! I've voted this up, and then voted it down, then voted it up again, and now I'm voting it up once more. I love the light-hearted humor in this, the remebrance of childhood that it inflicts, and it's originality in light of the challenge's theme. I can remember my brother bringing his toy soldiers to the beach with him and setting them up, which is why this meets the challenge in my eyes. I'm giving you an 8 for this one. It's not the most beautiful of shots in this challenge, but you deserve a score for meeting the challenge, and for the entertainment factor that this one gave me.

Do you think people who write something as short and derogitory should be allowed to remain here, as If I was viewing someone elses photo and noticed someone had left a mindless comment like that, I would be furious.
Could DP track these idiots and give them some kind of warning ?

You got 25 comments, almost all of them complimenting you on your creativity for this witty challenge entry. It would be nice if the world was all hugs and kisses, but it's not. If you can't take 1 or 2 lousy comments when showered with such praise, I don't know what to tell you. Grow some thicker skin.

Just as all of our photo abilities differ, so do we all have differing skills in the tact department. Some just have more than others, be it because of language barrier or having missed manners day in school. Learn to expect it and decide what value you will assign to those kinds of comments and then move on.

That being said, I personally find calling individuals out because of their comments, however tactless, to be equally lacking in tact. If you take issue with a comment, use the report comment feature and let the SC deal with it.

Seems that while the commenter may be lacking in tactful commentary they were giving their honest opinion of the shot. I looked through some of their other comments and most of them are short and to the point.

Maybe you don't find it helpful but why begrudge someone's opinion? Even if it isn't candy-coated to make it go down better. :)

You obviously like your shot and that's the most important part, happily there are a number of others who were very profuse with their admiration for it as well. If anything, you can just look at those and ignore the dissenters.

DPC comments are definitely about being able to taking the good and the bad, though even the bad can have merit and be helpful.

Just my thoughts.

edited to fix my grammar

I've got "thick skin", but I would be furious too...for awhile. I was tempted to go into verbal battle with this guy on your behalf because I don't like to see these type of hurtful comments.

Along the lines of the saying "If you can't say something nice...", the comment from Ahuuter was definitely not helpful, and of course, you didn't check that box. If someone doesn't like a photo, they will usually say so in a more civilized manner that shows consideration for a fellow photog. We all wish that all comments would be helpful and not hurtful, but that's not the way the world works.

Just dismiss the "crap" and focus on those helpful comments that you received.

Perhaps time for a "hide all comments from this user" button?

needs fire, whizzing bullets, explosions, water, and landing craft. If you're going to go cheesy, do it right. :P

Would it not be easier for you to ignore comments like that rather than trying to get a system put in place to track them?
