I've been looking at the new cameras that are out and soon to be released including the new Sony F828, Minolta Dimage A1, Canon Digital Rebel, and other high level but semi-affordable cameras. I really like many of the features of the F828 with it's better movie mode, high mp, and better lense. I also really like the creativity that the swiveling body and previewing abilty offers but I know it would be even heavier then my already heavy F707. On my current setup I have to keep taking the wide angle adapter on and off which becomes a real inconvenience and the F828 has that range already covered. Then comes along the Canon Digital Rebel and I started thinking about that camera with its interchangeable lenses plus the fact that it can be purchased with a fairly nice lens that includes a wide angle range. It is also light weight. Would I want to give up some of the creative perspectives that I can get from a "live" lcd screen and swiveling body or screen (depending on camera models )in favor of a true optical viewfinder of an SLR and ability to change lenses. I also enjoy the ability to review a shot emmediately through the electronic viewfinder while the camera is still to my eye allowing for a better view of my last shot while staying ready to take another photo quickly. Since I currently own a Canon Rebel Xs 35mm camera, for the fun of it I took it out, turned it on (I love it, the battery was still fresh!) looked through the viewfinder and focussed on an object. In an instant I had my answer. I thought if this camera were digital it would be perfect for me. I had almost forgotten how glorious images looked in that large optical viewfinder. It focussed in an instant and I could precisely tell if it actually focussed on the part of the scene that I wanted it to. I moved around the room instantly focussing on everything. Then I put on my Sigma 70-300 mm lense and looked outside and "mechancally" zoomed in to some details and once again was amazed by the clarity and how fast it snapped into focus. I wanted to run outside right then and take a bunch of photos but, of course, it's a film camera and I don't want to hassle with the film costs and developing, then scanning and then editing. So I just looked through the viewfinder and imagined when I would finally be holding the digital version of that camera. Suddenly when I held that Rebel to my eye and looked through the large perfectly clear and bright viewfinder I knew that I would easily be able to give up some of the fun features that the other non-SLR cameras have. This new Rebel would give me the precision and flexibily that I have been dreaming of. Now I can't even think straight, I want the new Digital Rebel and somehow I will find a way to get it. I have to go now, there has to be more information on it somewhere,....can't....think...straight....
