Hi guys. Been an remarkably busy week for me; besides 2 weddings I've also had 2 portrait sessions..... I feel like I'm underwater with processing back-log!

Anyway, thought I'd share a few from one of the portrait sittings. She wants to start modeling/acting and this was her first session in front of a camera... little tight at first, but overall I was quite pleased. I will schedule 2 more sessions with her over the next few months and then pull her portfolio together from the combination of the 3 sessions. I think both of the next two will be outdoors, one casual and one formal. Would love your input on this set and suggestions and ideas that I might try in the next 2 sittings with her....

Oh yeah.... she's TWELVE!!

Love them. Not so much a fan of the duotone one, but I really like the rest. I envy your portraiture skills...

Edit to add: I'll go comment on them later, I have to run and get ready for the day. And she's 12?!

Nice job. I'm also not a fan of the duotone one though. A few more full length shots would also be nice.

Thanks, guys. I did take quite a few full-body shots including a whole series of her dancing with an ipod.

I'm rather fond of that duo-tone treatment, but sounds like its not as popular as I'd hoped. Anyone else not like it/like it? I wanted to process a BUNCH of my wedding shots with the same treatment so its good to know if it won't be received well.

Hi
Nic Pics but how come there is so much difference in two pictures 345447 and 345445. I mean gal looks really different. Even 345448.

Just several different processing techniques. For a portfolio, you want to show as much variety as possible - atleast that was my motivation/intention for the different types of processing done. The darker one (345445) was done with dragonizer -- I wanted to know what that action would look like on a bright shot since I've only ever seen it done on shots that were already quite dark.

Those are very nice idnic!

I'm working with a 15yo trying to get into modeling/acting. Just shot him a couple weeks ago. I don't have permission to post his pictures online though. Mine are all outside.

He's my guinea pig lol. Shooting him again next month.

All of them are good, nice job. Left a comment, I like #345448 best.
And she's hot for being 12, haha

LOL You're under 18, you can say that! :)

She looks subdued in many of those shots. Was that the intent? Just curious. I know little about this sort of photography and being that she's young I thought maybe a bit more energy from her would be a good thing. I'm probably not explaining it well or I may not even know what I'm talking about. :P Oh and yes they do look good and nicely finished as they are.

I like the processing of the duotone one. The lighting is very dramatic and this is one of the few times I've seen it used so perfectly. To me, it would be far more interesting if the background was darker. The light background sort of negates the mood that the lighting alludes to.

LOL now I'm torn. Seems the duo-tone is "love it" or "hate it" but not much in between, (not the pic, just the processing).

You are quite right about the light. It is a touch too bright on that one (and a few others that I didn't post).

Still looking for suggestions for some variety for the next sessions... if anyone has any ideas...

I really like these shots. Well done ...

what duotone process did you use? there's a great one at atn central- you should download it if you don't already have it. I guess I would say just try to get a little more emotion out of the girl. :0)

Good Work Cindi--

I wonder if you could show the "ipod" shot thats in the montage, that looks like a fun shot..

Laura - I actually did use a "Sepia Tone - Grayscale" action, from that same site, I think. I just love the soft almost grayscale look.

Buzz - here are a few with the ipod, plus a few other picks....

Great work Cindi! I can't believe that girl is 12! What are you guys putting in the water out there in Florida?

Edit to add:

Someone just contacted me asking what sort of studio I used to take these pics. I know I've posted shots of my studio and described it before, but will do so again for the newer members or for those who might have missed it and are curious.....

My studio is in the space that used to be a 2 car garage. Its 20' X 21' I painted the walls and added proper floor tile. I have a curtained off area for changing and some chairs and games to keep kids busy while they wait. Lights are 3 Alien Bee strobes (one AB800 and two AB400s). I use one 60" 5-in-one reflector and sometimes fill-in with windshield reflectors. For props... absolutely anthing in my house is fair game and might end up in a shot or two.

Here are a few sloppy shots of the studio:

I hope atleast one person finds all of this helpful. :D
