I definatly the the colour one more, the b&w seems kinds dull. I'll point out the negative things (imo), because you know what the positive things are, or you wouldnt have taken the photo in the first place. The first thing that strikes me when i look at the photo tho is that the photo looks like its leaning towards the left. Also, the pole in the background is strange. At first glance it looks like a jpeg error or something, like a section from the lighthouse has been accidently loaded in the wrong place. Maybe you could clone that out if it's not too important in your eyes?

They're both wonderful pictures! I like the color one better, just because the colors on the lighthouse and the area surrounding it are beautiful! I see absolutely nothing wrong with either one, and I think you did a fine job capturing this eye-catching lighthouse! :)

I don't care for the position of the light house. I think it would be better more off to one side. I agree that it looks like it's leaning to the left.
I don't know that I prefer color over B&W; I think they both have their place. They are different, not necessarily better or worse than each other.

I'm glad he's still shooting -- do you plan to show him any more of his?
And, is this digital or a scan?
I like the color version because it seems to have much more "texture." I rather like the radio antenna echoing the lighthouse, and might even try a little burning to bring it out more. I'm pretty sure the "tilt" is an illusion caused by the combination of the lighthouse's position in the frame and the focal length used; the horizon looks level enough. |

I agree with most - I enjoy the color one the best. Yes, it does lean a little to the left - but not horribly so. The b/w one just doesn't do it for me. Also, maybe it's just me, but i see the reflection in the water better in the color pic. |

Tell your dad his photo looks great :) I've spent many a summer day enjoying the site of this historical landmark. I would go with the color version.

It's digital and the color version is unedited except the crop i made to an 8x10 ratio with the border. He recently bought an oly 5050z and he likes it quite a bit. If he shoots anything else I think is interesting i'll post it. |

As it's such a bold lighthouse the centered composition is fitting. It seems to be a tiny bit off-center, though, which kinda throws me off. I'd prefer it either dead-center or along the dreaded third. That's just the wanker in me saying that, though. Nice anyways, and I agree that the colour one is better. Nice RGB thing going on there, and the contrast on the 'house balances it.

Burn the clouds a little bit on the B&W and it'll be a very nice photo. The shot is nice. |
