There are many photographers here who I feel don't have half the talent of Ursula and Sher but who are practically hero-worshipped in the forums - which is cool by me - people can worship whoever they like. My feeling is that despite ribbons and fantastic work, these two individuals are still somewhat underrated by the community as a whole.

The voting system is the main rating system on DPC. I can't see in what other ways the community can rate Ursula more highly than 16 ribbons. 17 ribbons perhaps? :)

While I do think Ursula is becoming more well-known, think of the names that are usually thrown around in the forums...Kiwiness, Heida, Librodo, Joey Lawrence, Scalvert, etc. Ursula and Sher are not often among those names. I think that's what Kavey was referring to and I agree.

Hi John :)

Two more favourites and I'll pass Imagineer in the most favourites list - 14 more and I'll pass Graphicfunk, and then it's Shannon :))))

Seriously - thanks for mentioning Sher and I. I'm glad to be in her company, I love her pictures.

Wow Chris, thanks! I was just reading this thread and thinking that I'd nominate you. I was quite suprised to discover that you had already turned the table on me, and in the esteemed company of SJCarter. I tend to consider myself "undermotivated" as opposed to "underrated"; but your encouragement is inspiring.

Now, I'll go ahead and mention a few of mine:
Alienyst (of course)
Arancha
metatate

...and many more, including those who have already been listed.

No problem Roxanne - you are welcome! (Jimmy too - got your email) Between you and Jimmy in my fav's it is kind of obvious I like the work you both do. I hope some new people take the time to look.

He has show some amazing work in the last couple of months, check out his portfolio

I agree, very good work and his WPL-record is excellent. He is at the top of the PI list.

Thanks Deannda and GuGi. To be very frank, I don't really consider myself as underated DPCer. My work is definately rated as per my expection on DPC.

Special thanks to Maya for letting me know that my name is discussed in this special thread. I did quickly peeked into this thread in the office, but didn't notice until Maya told me.

Special thanks to pawdrix for starting this thread. Lots of really good stuff to look through!

And just for good measure, here's one of the "old man's" shots that I particularly like. (After all, it says he's 85 on his portfolio page. A very well preserved 85 at that!) :-)

Just a few of his outstanding work.

Well, it's tough to draw lines...who?...how many ribbons have/haven't been won?...or whatever. I suppose, what I was searching for were "the unseen". Photographers that are kickin booty in all directions that I've undeservedly passed by, ribbon(s) or not. Those with less than 10,000 portfolio views...still churning it out, not having been picked as a Fave 100 times plus because I'm sure, I've already seen the images of those that have reached all those marks, time and time again...(not that that's a bad thing I should add)

One for the road, dahkota, that I always enjoy going back to. Variety...the spice of life.

keep'em coming

Whoah...the rush of all those comparisons going to my head has made me swoon....

thanks Don!
Melissa

P.S. If there is a nomination for new(ish) DPCer to watch out for, I nominate Don (aka Posthumous). He's already topped my highest placement.

Here is someone who can take you to another world, whether it's Godard

or a mixup of Cassavetes and Arbus:

or Lewis Carroll:

or even a combo of Tati and Tatou!

or a world totally her own, from the garbage to the gorgeous:

Too late for that, he's already dead. This thread is for living photographers. jejejeĆ¢„Ā¢

R.

Incidentally, back when some kind sould nominated me for underrated, I was about to suggest someone start an "overrated" thread and lead off with me :-)

you look good under 5! scores shmores-that is what makes you so underrated!

I am happy to announce, I am NOT underated! Not sure what that means, but I have to tell you, it's a great load off my mind! Maybe I should pick up a copy of DPC Enquirer. Most recent edition has an article titled: Tell Your Personality by Whether You're Underated. That ought to clear things up. Ken (sic), tell me again where's the new edition?

Yay!! I'm underrated!! And don't forget misunderstood!!! My ultimate goal is to be unfairly forgotten!

So..
If you're not underrated, does that mean you're overrated?

And if you're not overrated.. *or* underrated.. are you just a middle-ground no-one?

And.. if you're just a middle ground no-one.. does that mean you really don't matter and nobody cares about you anyway and you should just quit photography altogether and find a job on an oil rig?

It's so confusing to me.

At least the job on the oil rig would pay well. Hazardous though.
