My mother in laws garden is in bloom again( and yes...Im in heaven). I took this photo of this tulip but i dont know the proper name for the type of tulip it is. I have searched several different flower companys and the closest think is a red one like this. anyone know what this tulip name is? both proper and scientific names would be a great help....Thanks

Not sure... but they do look like these..
Tulips ... let me see if I can locate the genus.

Definetly a type of tulip, as they come in so many shapes, sizes and color. (My wife says without a doubt. She plants various tulips every year.)



Here's a relative to the tulip you are asking about, from a few years ago...note the similar shape, but different tips.

Trivia:

There is no such thing as a black tulip

The closest is a very dark purple I think

There was a contest to see if someone could breed a black tulip, and it's not possible!

You may now resume your normal tulip picture taking

I did...thanks. tho I not 100% positive that its this tulip Im going with the name just the same. thanks for the help guys...your the greatest!

I agree - the name isn't 100% correct, but a tulip none-the-less!

It appears to be a Lily-flowered Tulip called Ballade, introduced in 1953: Lily-flowered Tulip

Story's not as good though.
