well there was some real interest for this GTG at the workshop in Muenster, so I think this will happen..
then it's just to decide when we should have the GTG...
in July we have 22-23 hours of daylight, so be prepared to be awake all nights at 3-4am, avarage heat about 15°C
in August we only have about 20 hours of daylight so the sweetspots are around 11-12pm and 3-4am, average heat around 15°C
in september we're down to 18 hours of daylight, sweetspots around 9-10pm and 4-5am, average heat around 12°C
so wich month should we choose ?
this is all within summer schedule at the hotels so they are more expensive then in the wintertime.
but I will get a good deal for the GTG at various location around the country, and the plan at the moment is to rent a bus and go as a group around the country, staying 1-2 nights at each hotel, and make the trip about 7-10 days... we have a LOT of different landscapes I know everyone wants to photograph :)

I would choose for August, for time and good temperture :-)
September would be hard to manage, July would be to early for me.

In August my Stables, De Deel is still open, so I can't leave. September for me! I'd love to travel arround before or after the GTG and the car rentals, hotels and flights are less expensive by then. And I'm no rich girl yet (just started my own business.) Temperature is no problem and 20 hours of daylight, thats a lot!!!
I even would like to come in januari, to see the aurora's!! And feel how i's lijk when it's dark for such a long time...
Dansig, where did you find the 120,- tickets? I can find Britisch airways, and for a return flight about 320,- euro's , think that's pretty ok! Including tax...
A Jimny 4x4 in september costs about 100,- per day... Hmm I'm no hero so I don't know if I want to Hitch....
Love your offer! I'm gonna cotact you soon Kollaosk!
Bummer.... No Iceland Lonely plantet in store today... :( hav to buy it on the net. Oowww wanna goo now!! :)

Count me in.
I would likely fly out of Boston, unless Icelandair starts servicing Halifax like they used to prior to 2000. |

if you are coming to Iceland then the cheapest tickets are available from IcelandExpress.com

you don't have to be a hero to hitch in Iceland, it's a very natural way to travel here, there is no chance of being robbed, raped, or killed while hitching :)
I used to hitch between towns when I was only 7 years old, so it's not a problem. |

Pete (Ganders) and I would be interested in principle but it would depend on what our finances are like at the time we need to book and how much it costs...
But Iceland is on our travel wishlist so we'd love to visit!

I would love to go, ticket would probably be expensive but I'd do it anyhow. I just need to book in advance to get a good deal! |

I wanna come! That would be a dream. If I can save up enough money and get the time from school (it's a photography school...they probably wouldn't mind a photography related trip) than I will be there!

I think the GTG will be in late August or september, there will be another GTG in Muenster next year in June, and we have to let some time pass before the GTG in Iceland, as so many people want to attend both, but can't afford to travel both to Muenster and Iceland within a few weeks period.
it will be cheaper, both flight and hotel will be cheaper, and probably the bus to, and there is a bigger chance of getting enough available rooms for the group at the hotels.
I have spoken to some of the hotel managers about the GTG and asked if we would get an even better deal in return for some prints of the local landscape, and they thought it was a great idea, so who is willing to trade a print for a good discount at the hotels ?
it must be high quality prints in A3 size, I have the Epson 2100 and am willing to let people print on it during the trip, you just have to pay for paper and ink.
or there are a few printshops around the country that can print for you, but prints must be delivered before the end of the trip to recieve the extra discount... and it all depends on the quality and quantity of landscape pictures how much the discount will be, but I know it will be generous....

I really wish that I was into photography when I was stationed up there. It's absolutely gorgeous.
And if y'all want to take a short break from taking pictures, you can always play a round or 2 of golf near Keflavik. |

I haven't read all the posts in here yet, but Dave (count) said that he had noticed this thread a while ago, and I just found it and wanted to post that we would definitely be interested, all things permitting
edit to add: we'd like to try to go to both GTG, so yes, it would be nice to space them apart....

I've been to Solheimar, it's a beautiful place, have to call them to see how their rooms are, don't think many would go with sleepingbag accomodation, I know I need my double bed and bathroom :)
here are the locations of the hotels I can get a good discount at. plus I can get a really good deal for the group at a hotel in Olafsvik, right next to Snaefellsjokull,
