I have been getting alot of spotting on my sensor lately and think I have figured out what the culprit is, I use a Hurricane brand bulb style blower and often give the sensor a blast of air instead of wiping it. Last night I read "We would STRONGLY recommend staying away from the "Hurricane" brand of blowers as there has been numerous reports of this brand of blower spewing particles of rubber onto the sensor. at This very good camera cleaning website

I'm buying a new bulb blower today and thought I would share the warning.

I use the Giotto large "rocket" type blower, and it keeps it nice and clean.

I wouldn't use anything that even had the word 'hurricane' on it to clean mine. However, I haven't cleaned mine yet...but I a very careful when I change lenses...I even turn the AC/air off in the car if I change them in the car! lol

Well I have a hurricane blower, but it seems there are many that look alike but may be different brands. The ones I see on the web, seem to say something like France or Franca on it. Mine says Matin (I think--stylised font), but looks just like those on the web.

So which manufacturer of the Hurricane is putting out the ones that are defective? Looks like its pretty much used as a generic name for that kind of blower!

'this is a very good camera cleaning website who just happen to sell a competing product/ solution' is how you probably should have finished that off...

I am deathly afraid of cleaning my sensor. I believe Canon recommends the basic bulb blowers; but I would think that you'd have to keep it clean so you do blow dirt from it to the sensor. These guys might show good support, but they are peddling there own product - so it makes me reluctant to make them the 'gospel' truth on the subject.

Only time and feedback in forums such as this will get me on board.

Like I said, I'm deathly afraid of cleaning the sensor - but as mine is only a couple months old with only 4000 shots and I take precautions as it is - I don't think I will have to worry about it for a while.

I've been using mine for a year now without any issues. I blow out the mirror area and then lock-up and blow out the sensor area on a regular basis and have never had to clean my sensor with other methods.

I would think that a blanket statement like the one they made would have a little substantiating information included. Blowers work well adn are in direct competition with their procuct so I would not put a lot of stock in what they claim.

I always give my blower a dozen or so good squeezes before I use it on the camera to clear it just in case their is anything lodged in it.
