I like kayak III a great deal. I think the anonymity of the kayaker works well with the blurry unrealistic feel of the shot. |

great shots vjoz! Funny, Gordon and I were just discussing kayaking earlier in the chatroom.
I'd say that the problem in many of them is the motion blurring, which I agree with Gordon about it working well in Kayak 3. Perhaps shoot at the highest shutter speed possible. Still, I'm very impressed with the shots that you got under those extreme circumstances and awed by the fact you would even bring your 10D anywhere near the water! :)
I'm going to Alaska soon and hope to do a few day ocean kayaking trip. I'm looking into waterhousings now but I think I'm going to end up with just a waterproof disposable to be safe. Any suggestions? |

I think the first two capture the power of nature and the insignificance of a single person very well. Very dramatic.

Thanks, the motion blur was partly intentional ;) - I was hoping to get the water moving (making it "soft") while the Kayaker would be pretty sharp, or still...
This night was pretty dark, I shot those pics around 23:15.
Also I didn't want to use ISO spedd higher than 400, as I mentioned I was trying to do some arty farty... ;)
Also I was very happy when I found out what the Image stabializer does! it is amazing...
I checked on thes waterproof thingies, the only thing I could find in ReykjavÃk was some crappy plastic bag... - well I'm not very fond of the Idea of my 10D in a plastic bag, and that plastic bag in water...
I've been using underwater housings for Sony PD100 (DV recorder) and that one was very massive...
plz post something if you find it...

Action photography is difficult. Anticipation and luck are your best friends for this type of imaging.
Your images are very fine. Nothing wrong with them at all.
My advice is to position yourself where the lighting is just right (A combination of bright light and shadow for contrast) and capture the images as they present themselves in that place. You already try different shutter speeds to capture motion or stop action and that is good. Trying extremes is always a worthy endevour.
Of course, taking hundreds or thousands of shots helps. After all, the harder you work the luckier you get. Digital photography lends itself well for that.

I like the blurred ones best : )
Of the others I think the last 2 work well because you've captured the expressions on the faces well. Great stuff.

oh ok. there was a rationale :) .. hmm , i might try to think of a different way to convey that effect. in this way it merely looks like a mis-set white balance .. not trying to be rude, just what i see :) ..
great shots
