No offense Lesidhe, but it is only our greed which fools us into believing such a deal could be true. Western Union? Prices 40% below anybody else? What part of this seemed legit? I'm hopeful for you BoA will be able to recoup you, but consider it a lesson learned. |

Hi everyone. Just to update you all, it did turn out to be a scam. The camera was never received but as the bank assured us we were covered, we went and ordered the camera elsewhere. We just found out the bank has decided that as the money was sent Western Union and Western Union performed their service that we were not covered at all. (even though they told us on the phone that it was covered). They have reversed the credit to our account. Unfortunately we are out the cost of two cameras but at least the second one arrived. I know I have learnt a very good lesson out of all this. As for the prices being really low, they were lower but not so much that it was unbelievably low. They advertised that no taxes needed to be paid on their stock so it made the prices seem about right considering that their was no state taxes. Anyway, it was a long saga that I am more than pleased to put behind me. Although losing the money hurt us terribly it is a mistake that will make us stronger and more determined to never be taken again. Thanks to all for your support.

Woah, Double Bummer.
Sorry to hear that.
It was nice that BoA should give you such a rosy false impression then dump you...
What exactly did they mean in the first place if they don't actually have real policy to help? And if they don't have any such policy, what business do they have in making such claims over the phone? Yeesh! |

It's possible that the person on the phone misunderstood and thought that the credit/debit card had been directly used to pay for the camera. If the product was not delivered, there would be recourse. In this case, though, the card was used to pay for a Western Union money transfer. THAT service was delivered, so BoA has no grounds for charging back Western Union.
Probably just a simple misunderstanding on the part of the customer service rep.

Or miscommunication on the part of the customer, for that matter.
"Did you use a credit card to pay for this transaction?"
"Yes."
"Then you're covered."
Wrong, as Terry pointed out; the CC was used to purchase a money order from Western Union, not to purchase a camera. Bummer indeed, but good attitude. I've always thought everybody needed to get scammed once in their life, just to put them on their toes for the REST of their life...

You have a great attitude, Trecia. I know it hurts to lose that much, especially knowing that some jerk profited by a successful scam. You were not the first to be taken in by one these scams and certainly will not be the last!
A city in Eastern New Mexico (name withheld to protect the stupid) fell for one those "Nigerian" scams, sending the scammers the city's bank account info along with access information. They were 'cleaned out' in short order! In all these 'Nigerian' scams, the perpetrators depend on the victim being amenable to a 'touch of larceny'. The line usually goes something like this: "My husband's uncle was the president of Timbuktu until his assassination last year. Now his Swiss bank account is unavailable for transfer to a Timbuktu bank, therefore we need an accomplice in the U.S. with a bank account to assist. We will pay you 25% of the funds ($14.6 million) in exchange for your help" |

I just read this under "terms and conditions of sale"
""All our prices are firm. Prices are subject to change without notice.
We cannot process orders with a value less than US $699. Sorry for inconvenience.
The maximum order for the first transaction is US $5,000.00.
Now they have a minimun on how much they're gonna rip someone off for???? Something has to be able to be done...make them stop!

Hey Lesidhe, maybe this will help...
I know it's hard. I'd be half tempted to go to Brooklyn see if they have the camera I ordered. If they do, ask to see a copy. Then, walk out with it. If they come running open the trenchcoat and let them be face to face with both Smith and Wesson. But that's cause I'm sick of the planet earth.
And mainly, that this !@#$% happens every day and our government won't do jack about it. I'm sorry, complain to the Better Business Bureau is the only option we get. Hell, for what we pay in taxes....it's crap.

Of note, another idea...(and non-lethal one).
Keep finding their websites. Find their web hosts. Then send DCMA cease and desist letters to have their sites taken down for copyright violations.
My guess is all their photos are illegal anyways. Just claim and if you have to fake proof of ownership. Do so... what are they going to do, sue you? Then they'd have to bring you to court. Of course, the odds are that they can't.

This is close to where I am. This address is probably a postal service type company. They just take packages and possible ship things. I was looking for another camera store in Brooklyn and that is what I found.

I say we try to set up a transaction, get the police involved, and when they go to Western Union to pick up their money, BAM!!! they get arrested for fraud. And then the police delivers them to those they have robbed, handcuffed, and walk away for about three hours. I would love to spend even five minutes with those @$$H*!!$. |

Actually, police might not do it, but Western Union might. If you explain the situation. Maybe they'd set up a sting.
It hurts their reputation as well. |

Yeah, in their privacy policy they goofed and missed changing the name "Elsider" in one place.
Now that there's a trail, there definitely SHOULD be some fraud proceedings started, quickly before they change yet again.
edit to add;
The name sounded funny for an electronics store so I searched it. First hit I clicked;
not electronics, but the "warehouse" addy!
Haven't checked any further, but the other addresses they list are probably stolen from other legit businesses too.
