Has anyone here ever sold rights to your work which includes reproduction and sale/distribution rights on either an exclusive or a limited basis?

I havent ever sold my complete rights to a photo, but if the price was right, I probally would. The shots that Ive sold so far were paid for each use. They used some of the pics several times, so with each use, comes a payment.

in my job i shoot images that are frequently requested by textbook publishers and others. in the process of licensing these images for use, we have paperwork that grants one-time non-exclusive North American rights.
If you want to see our paperwork/use-agreement, send me a PM.

There are several pieces of info that I would like to know more about... definitely what the agreements look like... I suppose the $ amount involved would definitely be guided by the type of use...

2003 Photographer's Market: 2,000+ Places to Sell Your Photography may also be worth a look. There is quite a lot of info on this topic in there, including samples, I think. |

John -
I've sold numerous images to greeting card companies. I always specify "greeting card rights" and sometimes limit it to North America, or occasionally for five years, allowing me to re-sell the images to other markets or at a later date. It's been a while, but I think that I got a general contract out of the "Photographers Market" book that's published every year and re-worked it to suit my needs a bit.
As far as pricing, if you go to Getty Images and look up a rights-managed image, you can answer some questions about what it will be used for and it will quote you a price. If I don't know what to charge, I generally look there for an idea of general market prices.
Hope that's of some help.
Jodie
