this is one of my most dangerous takes.. not for me but for my 5D ;)
I had to detach the lens and squeeze the lens and camerabody through different holes in the fence in the Eiffel tower, it was really windy and raining and I could've dropped my camera or lens... then I reached as far out as I could to take the picture.. and I couldn't use the wrist strap for the shot, only had 3 fingers to hold the camera...

Jet Car
I used to work as a track photographer at a drag strip. This is one of the shots I took while standing between jet cars as they took off from the starting line. The only thing more dangerous was standing next to the guard rail as they pushed 200 mph, but it was the most incredible rush I've ever experienced. Those shots have disappeared over the years as they were on 35mm negatives. This is the one remaining photo.

I'm acrophobic and I literally crawled on my belly to the edge of this cliff to snap some shots of the tracks and my head was spinning so badly and my stomach churning that I decided I had to crawl back to my car when I heard the train coming. I stuck it out, and actually leaned out over the edge holding the camera clicking away as the train came through a tunnel underneath me. I was terrified and think I shook for a couple of hours even after I got back to safe ground. This is a pretty remote area and no one knew where I was either... LOL
I'm glad I got the shot, cuz I never have to go back out there again!

Can't help but wondering what is so dangerous about this photo.
Where you afraid that the bars on the balcon from where you obviously took the photo, will drop off? |

dang, I didn't look closely enough at that picture before to see how high up that is. Was that place the basis for the Tower of Babel story or something? |

This was absolutely hilarious to watch me shoot... set up flowers, crouch down on knees and elbows and wait for wave... big wave... quick, shoot and move before wave takes out camera! Thankfully... I was able to keep the camera dry and no one else had a camera to document the process! I was however absolutely soaked by the end of the shoot! Thank goodness I was wearing my bikini! LOL

Here is my story...
I had a brilliant idea for the DPC "Despair" challenge when I woke early on a Saturday morning. I says to myself, "Self, why don't you drive downtown and take a bunch of pictures of some hungry, desperate, homeless derelicts hanging out on the streets... now THAT is "despair". That will be a sure fire ribbon winner!"
So, happy as a clam, I jump into my shiny new Accord, pop some Pink Floyd into the 6-CD player, and head off! I stopped into Starbucks on the way for a vente latte and then cranked up Floyd to the max!
Sure enough, there were lots of homeless people downtown. Great, I thought, that increases my chances of taking the perfect picture of "depair". I could hardly contain my glee at the thought of that blue ribbon next to my name.
I stopped my car across the street from a bus stop where a group of homeless were loitering. Perfect, I thought, the backlighting around them formed by the rising sun created harsh lense flares that made them look even more desperate. I walked around taking lots of pictures at all angles and they kept a wary eye on me.
Right after I took the above picture, the short guy sitting down wearing the black wool cap leaps up, runs directly across the street to me at Olympic 100 meter speed and stops about one foot from my face. With a crazed look in his eyes he screams, "What are you doing taking MY picture!".
Suddenly, it dawns on me he could be an escaped axe-murderer who would bludgeon Mother Teresa to death to keep from being discovered. I'm scared for my life!
I start talking REAL fast. I tell him I'd never take pictures of anyone without their permission and I will delete the pictures of him immediately. There was just one tiny little problem, I was so scared I could not remember how to delete pictures. So I turn the camera around so that he could see the LCD and pressed the frame advance button and weakly say, "See how easy it is to delete the pictures of you". He watches intently, his expression unchanged. I advance through all the pictures. Thank goodness the first one on the card was a flower. Finally, I give him the bravest look of assurance I could muster to convince him that they were all gone.
He just stands there glaring at me for an eternity. I'm frozen in place. My life passed before my eyes. I envisioned him grabbing my brand new camera to crush my skull just before stomping it into a million pieces on the ground.
This was it. I knew I was a goner. Then he simply says, "OK", then turns and walks away. As cool and calm as a guy with a giant Starbucks wet spot on the front of his pants can be, I make a hasty retreat to my car and speed away. |
Dude! You are crazy!! Moreso than I thought! :P |
